Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The 2002 C4s has had the RMS replaced already which is a plus.

The 02 C4S and the 997 still have a potential for RMS and IMS.Lots of info if you use the search button, and are ready to spend literally hours reading about it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Try not to flame too much, but is the 2002 C4S engine the same basic block as the turbo? I'm down to 2 finalists for a purchase. One is a 2002 C4s and one is a base 997. I personally like the C4S look better + the cost is lower. But like a recent poster I'm concerned with the IMS/RMS issue that could be found. The 2002 C4s has had the RMS replaced already which is a plus. A PPI will be done. But I've heard the Turbo Motor of the 996's never had these issues. Is it the block or other parts that made the turbo stand out in reliability?

POST 2Original post

turbo = completely differant block (case) and NO IMS

POST 3Original post

No. The turbo and the GT3 share a similar engine design. The 02 C4S and the 997 still have a potential for RMS and IMS.Lots of info if you use the search button, and are ready to spend literally hours reading about it. GL

POST 4Original post

We have found very few incidents of RMS and IMS failures on the MY06 997s and beyond.

Turbo motor (and GT3) is based on the GT1 block The others use the M96 block (common to 986,987, 996 and 997). Many who fear the IMS issue, have upgraded with an IMS kit (by LN engineering or Jake Raby) and report no worries thereafter.
