I seem to have become obsessed with the idea of a manual trans., lightweight 991. I assume this is a residual effect of selling my '73 RS lwt 26 years ago that I was using as a daily driver. In any case, the current goal would be a 3.4 chassis/engine, Aero Kit w/rear ducktail, mild uprated engine (375 HP?), six speed manual (slightly closer ratios 1-5 and a 6th cruising ratio /1-5 for track days and 6th for the ride home)(six speed is lighter than 7 speed), Akrarovic titanium exhaust (- 8.8kg), rear seats delete, lightweight suspension and rear axle components from GT3, lightweight PCM (at the very least cut #of speakers from 10 to 5), CS spec steel suspension (PASM Sport optional), ltw door panels, lightest wheel/tire combo (19/20?) and any additional weight that can be wrung out of what I understand is already a very mass aware design. As much as mass is the enemy, I would have to leave A/C in, but delete would be possible. The goal would be to eliminate 90-100KG.
I envision a PCA class where the only mods allowed would be pushing the PASM Sport button and adjusting the tire pressures (level playing field at its best!).
What do you think? Is this just another example of the axiom that "Every new idea is not a good idea" or is there someone (or say 1500 of you) that might actually plonk down between $100K - $120K for such an item?
supercroc
The last time Porsche offered a 911 club sport in the US was 1988. They sold all of 20 I think. Of course they are collector items now, but the point is that people say they want minimalist sports cars until it comes time to plunk down the cash. Don't think a 991 club sport, if it does happen, will be anything like you describe, except perhaps the rear seat delete and optional radio.
Did you by any chance write into Porsche GT with this idea? I like the idea. I thought the cup cars were offered at a cheaper price point than the standard car, which would make it an even more appealing proposition.
Sounds like you're describing a cayman with some mods! Seriously though I would love to have a lightweight 911, though I would want an S. of my last thre sports cars, Elise, cayman with zero options, and an M3 with cloth but about every other option I enjoyed the Elise most. It would be great if Porsche offered a Carrera s with a minimalist radio, no nav or screen, light air con, no sound deadening material, manual everything, etc. I'd pay $120k for that but as was mentioned I think we're in the minority.
