Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Before this occurs the car will be going about its routine monitoring this and that and this will draw on the battery - hence the light changing from orange to green and so on...

I've put this switching down to the fact that there are still a number of 'live' systems running for a couple of days, then the car goes into sleep mode and the switching (on mine at least) stops.....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I just bought a CTEK XS3600 charger for my 996tt, as the battery would go flat after @5 days of no use. It seems great but the query I have is that I thought it charges the battery to the optimum level and then switches to maintenance/trickle charge which is when the green light comes on. My charger switches to maintenance mode but then switches back to charge, and it probably does this about 3-4 times in 24 hours, anyone know if this is normal or should it stay in maintenance mode for longer? i.e. a few days before charging.

POST 2Original post

Mine switches back and forth quite a bit to start with, but after a few days settles down and you'll mostly see the green light.

POST 4Original post

I have one too. It's only really worth monitoring the light after the car has 'gone to sleep' after 5 days or so (?) - not sure of the exact time it takes, sorry. Before this occurs the car will be going about its routine monitoring this and that and this will draw on the battery - hence the light changing from orange to green and so on... The slightest drop in charge will result in the light going to orange. My car gets very little use and I regularly have it go to sleep. I always peer through the window of the car at the charger before I put the key in the door to see what colour the light is - it's always green - and then it immediately changes to orange as soon as I turn the door key and wake everything up. Richard will be able to give you the exact figures but I think that the car draws around 5 amps/hour when its awake and this drops quite dramatically down to somewhere around 0.5 amps/hour when she goes to sleep. That's why your battery was struggling without the Ctek - but you already knew that. :sleepy:
