The low level of servo assist on the brakes is such a well known feature that it was the first thing the salesman explained to me before we test drove the car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally after what seemed like an eternity I got my hands on my 2002 C4S on Friday. I picked up my lad from school (he didn't know anything about it) and his face was a picture when I showed him to his chariot! That was nothing compared to his face when I booted it......... We took the long way home that night! Sadly the weather has been foul so far and I've been reluctant to take it out onto the ultra-rural Lincolnshire track roads where I live as they are more mud than asphalt at this time of year. Hopefully todays sunshine will dry things out a bit and we can go for a spin. I've put up a few piccies taken in the rain yesterday, apologies for the quality but hopefully you get the idea. Cheers - me very happy!!!!!

POST 2Original post

Congrats and :welcome: Lovely colour Seal Grey, and the 4S looks lovely esp from the rear - enjoy :thumb:

POST 3Original post

Congrats on a beautiful car! And in the best colour!! (although I am biased).

POST 4Original post

Congratulations, it's a great feeling isn't it! and it doesn't go away I got my late 01 C4S tip a month ago and it's still a great experience and its such a beautiful looking car as well.

POST 6Original post

great colour and for my money the best looking porsche since the 993's. Congrats

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for your comments guys! I've just had my first real afternoon of driving and here are some of my thoughts/observations: 1) PSE is too awesome for words - love it, love it, love it! Don't even know if the radio works yet! 2)Traction/grip levels are astonishing - coming from the land of FWD cars of moderate power I had no idea that a car could handle this well. My 265bhp Volvo S60 T5 would torque steer and wheelspin until the cows came home. But this is just on a different planet altogether. 3) Brakes feel heavy and are not as sharp as I thought they would be. Perhaps this is because it has new discs and pads all round? 4) Lots of road noise and plenty of crashing around on some of Lincolnshires B roads 5) People will stop and stare at you, that is a new one on me! I really didn't think that people would do that 6) Love the auto box and have just started playing around with the tiptronic but for now have just enjoyed driving it in auto 7) My mates are extremely jealous Roll on tomorrow!!!!!!

POST 8Original post

Congrats on an excellent choice of 996, the best in the range   The second fastest paint colour as well!! You will smile forever! Cheers Alan.

POST 9Original post

Great choice of car - you will get used to the brakes.... They do have a firm feel compared with other cars, but they are very strong brakes indeed. As for PSE - I can't imagine mine without it. Should I buy another, it would be on the top of my want list :thumb: Welcome to the forum too!

POST 10Original post

brakes do feel a bit "dull" if you are coming from a heavily over servoed ordinary car (my daily is a BMW 5 and its brakes are far more sensitive or over sensitive). once you are used to them you will find them full of feel and very powerful (particularly the 4s) but do require a little more effort than we have become used to.

POST 11Original post

Congrats on the new purchase! As mentioned above, 911s' brakes are not servoed as much as other cars and the main effort will come from your right foot sans any assistance. However, Porsche brakes are some of the best in the world as testified by dozens of motoring journalists over many years. The 996 C4S is reckoned to be the best looking car in the whole of the 996 range. ~ Maxie :thumb:

POST 12Original post

brakes Yes, those were my initial thoughts on my brakes too. But they will take you down from high speed very quickly, have no fear stomping on them.

POST 13Original post

The low level of servo assist on the brakes is such a well known feature that it was the first thing the salesman explained to me before we test drove the car. Surprised same thing didn't happen with your dealer. The brakes work fine. The only problem comes when you change back to another car. I drove my Mum's Polo this weekend and nearly put both of us through the windscreen at the first give way sign!

POST 14Original post

Nice piece of pork mate. The brake trait was also explained to me before taking my first test drive at Paragon. It was to different from my last car (Noble) just needed a little harder push. Got to say I think it must worry a lot of people at first. they work great at high speed!!! Jim

POST 15Original post

Congrats on the purchase. I am 3 months into C4S ownership and am a very happy chapppy indeed. I am still at the stage where any little excuse to go out in it I jump at the chance. One thing I wuld point out is that you can carry so much speed into a bend rather effortlessly that when you hop into another car it can catch you out!! I split my time between the C4S and a Focus and on a few occasions I have gone into a bend a touch too quick for the Focus. I agree with the traction comments as well, also, when it does give way the PSM is quick to react and even when it does whip out a touch it's pretty controllable, even for a novice like myself (i provoke it a touch now when conditions permit). Regarding the brakes, one you are used to them then nothing will compare, the rate at which you can scrub off speed is impressive and braking can be left very late (which helps the turn in as well). Happy driving.
