Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Searching previous threads I saw that Jay T has installed a lift, but it was bought as a kit.
Leading evidence: 'Install lift' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install lift' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well the sun was finally out yesterday and I contemplated taking the hardtop off, but I don't currently have anywhere to store it. I want to sort something out over the next few weeks.
I have looked at various systems and the wall hanging bag-type seems to be the cheapest and best so far. But I don't really have the wall space for it in the garage. I do however, have plenty of ceiling space, but the bag needs to be flat against the celing in order to get the car underneath and these bags only have two fixing points.
I then thought that it can't be that difficult to install a winch. These guys (

) do one for £500. It then thought about a DIY and you can buy an electric winch from MachineMart for £80!

Has anyone else tried this for themselves, or installed an alternative winch system? Is it safe to leave the hardtop hoisted above the car? I presume there is a fail safe on these hoists?

Hi,
I just replied to your PM.
I notice that you say the roof would need to be installed flat against the ceiling in your case. I would say that with any hoist system you will likely not be able to acheive this. In my case I have my roof winched up as high as it will go and there is still about 60cm between the top of the roof and the ceiling (maybe more).
I will get back to you re. the company I sourced mine from however. It was a while ago, and they may have improved the design or have other alternatives.
Cheers.
Sorry for not making myself clear, but I was referring to the bag system. If I was to hang a bag from the ceiling the hooks would need to be mounted at the four corners. The only bags I have seen have two mounting points, so the hardtop hangs vertically.
Regards
Lee
Took my hardtop off taday and worked out a way to store it. I purchased one of the hanging bag-type covers and mounted it on the ceiling of the garage. I explained to the supplier what I wanted to do and they kindly supplied a second set of fixings. I then bought some Nylon rope from Screwfix for £8 and strapped it up.
