Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm thinking of the first audio upgrade steps -replacing the audio head unit / trunk amp and speakers in my 01 cab. Do I also need to change the wiring harness(es) that connect them all? If it is as simple as using the existing wiring and re-plugging connectors or screwing down wires, I think I can handle that. But if these simple upgrades necessitate pulling wires, I may want to leave it to a pro, or at least someone who knows the specific model. Any recommendations? Is this a DIY job? FYI, stage 2 will be a subwoofer (location still being debated), so my plan is to include a 5-channel amp in stage 1, but then hire a pro for the sub because it will involve hole cutting, box building and wire pulling.

POST 2Original post

I had all new wires run when I did my system. By running fresh wires you will not be risking any crimp/cut related issues and returning to stock will be a snap. I also let the pros do it. If you go that route be sure to find a reputable shop that has worked on these cars.
