I used these to hold it on one side, then bought some nylon rope to loop across to the other side.

I asked the seller to include a second set free of charge so that I could hang it horizontally rather than vertically.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
First off, just wanted to say Hello to everyone here. I traded up from my BMW (Cayman previously) this week and will be picking up my 996 C4S Cabrio on Saturday from OPC Reading(one more sleep to go
). To say I am excited is a massive understatement.
My question relates to storing the massive hard top that comes with the motor. I doubt I will be wanting to put the roof back on once I get it off(unless I go on holiday). So I plan to store it in the shed but then I realised it could go mouldy or mouse nibbled like sun lounger cusions.
Any advice on this?
I thought bubble wrap although this may induce condensation? The stand in the front room would be nice but will get over-ruled straight away.
I have a secondary problem in how I am going to get the thing off when I get home as the wife will not be able to lift it(let alone being scared stiff to drop it on the car or the floor). But this should be sorted by getting the nosey neighbour over
Thanks in advance.
Hopefully the pics will be visible too.
Wow, looks good in black. :thumb:
I got a stand off ebay for my M3 convertible. Just did a quick search there for a hard top stand and found this for porsche:

As for the mouse bites / nibbles. I have found that her 2 burmese seem to have decimated any and all wildlife surrounding the house, including rabbits, squirrels and pheasants as well. I even came home one evening to witness the grey one chasing a fox!
Hi,
Welcome to the 996 Cabrio fold !!!
I have just taken my hardtop off, and tbh, me and wifey managed it without too much effort, (She is not a Russian shot-putter type), without me swearing at her or being in fear of it being dropped on the car or the floor.
I have a stand, (Porsche type), came with the car, but I have bought, from ebay, a hanging hardtop cover/bag,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-911-9...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item483990d881
This comes with two big screw hooks to put into the ceiling joists or garage wall, put the hardtop in the bag, and hang it from the wall/joists.
Having used it for the first time last weekend, it was about half an inch short of me being comfortable to zip it all along the top without pinching the rubber seal, but I think it will stretch to allow this, or if it doesn't, I'm not that bothered as it is protected in the bag and hanging nicely.
They also do the hardtop stands for £79.99, which is about a third of the price to buy one from Porsche.
Just a thought for you.
happy driving !!
Hi and welcome
Getting the roof off is a doddle mate, just remember that the weight is in the back end, just plan it, you'll need some strong tape and have a soft surface to lay the roof down onto after it's removed, the tape is to prevent your jaw falling off as you look at how stunning the cabby is topless!
I've took mine off recently, it's in a very similar bag to the one pirellipete has linked, I've put mine in the shed with a plastic sheet under it. I don't get any problems with mice and my lawnmower, strimmer etc don't seem to be affected by the damp.

I have just taken my hardtop off as well. I bought a storage bag from UKCustomCovers for £100. I didn't have much wall space though in the garage, so I have mounted mine on the celing.
Good choice by the way. I also have a C4S cab, but in Arctic Silver. The sound is awesome when the top is down. You don't see many C4S cabs though, they are not as popular as the coupes.
Thanks for advice.
Unfortunately I have no garage but hanging it from the roof in the shed is a good option assuming I get the bag. I presume the bag is standard with the hard top.
We will give the roof removal a go in the showroom with the wife today...
Hope the rain holds off today, Reading OPC here I come!!!!
The bag comes with some hooks for childrens garden swings. I asked the seller to include a second set free of charge so that I could hang it horizontally rather than vertically. The bag comes with two fabric hoops so that you can hook them over the fixings in the wall/ceiling. I used these to hold it on one side, then bought some nylon rope to loop across to the other side.
It is really stable and nothing is in contact with the rubber seals around the hardtop, to prevent them from getting distorted over the winter. Personally, it works well for me because I have ran out of wall space in the garage.
The bag isn't a standard item with the hardtop, although Porsche do sell them as an optional extra a great expense. I bought mine from this place:

They also sell on Ebay, as Pirelli Pete pointed out.
Thanks for all the advice.
Bag and stand from eBay plus some mousetraps
Picked up the car today and it is better than I could dream!
Only annoyance, clicking cd drive on PCM.
Bring on the sun!
