Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Interesting post from Rennlist quoting the manual... You learn something new everyday.

You must be running nearly 100% petrol in your oil due to driving like miss daisy uh:

POST 4Original post

Very interesting, I have actually noticed that the oil level at the start of the journey (engine cold) reads higher than when the engine is hot and the oil has settled. Thanks for that, I now have an explanation as to why this happens.

POST 6Original post

On the same subject, I have noticed recently that the oil pressure gauge in my car is reading higher than it has been previously. Originally, it was at 5bar at cold startup which reduced to about 2.5bar when warm. However now it sits at about 4bar under normal driving conditions (below 3,000rpm), which drops to 2bar when the car is stationary and idling. The needle also seems to fluctuate a bit when you pull up at traffic lights. Does this sound like a dodgy sender or is it something more serious? Also I did a quick oil level check using the digital gauge and it is in the middle of the scale, i.e. it needs three bars to top it up to the maximum. Could this be a cause of my problem? I am getting a bit paranoid because the car is booked in for a major service on Monday and I am having nightmares about a big bill!

POST 7Original post

According to my mechanic the electronic gauge isn't accurate, the dipstick is the only sure way of knowing the exact oil level, check it before a journey not just after. As for the pressure wavering, make sure you top up first. If it's still the same the sender unit may be worth checking out although the pressures you've got now seem reasonable. Hope it's nothing untowards :thumb:
