I have read that to remedy the ball joint, liberal application of grease using a syringe may help isolate the problem - i.e.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have just noticed that there is a squeaky sound that sometimes comes from the general direction of the front, driver side wheel. When the car was at rest I tried to bounce it up and down by putting my weight on the wing and I did hear it creak but cant be sure if it is the same noise. Anyone know what this is?
Sorry for the amatuer questions, I am only 24 hours into ownership!

I place my bet.....
Offside inner coffin arm bush.
Diagnosis: See my FAQ on coffin arms, you will need to detach the outer ball joing and the swing are that bolts to the centre bush so that you can raise and lower the arm with nothing attached. I am sure you will find it will squeak considerably.
Where are you Raj? If local maybe I can help out.
I'll trade you your occasional squeak for my occasional rattle...
My rattle is a work in progress... doesn't help when your 300km from your OPC... but I'll get it sorted in due course...
Thanks for the offer of help, Lloyd. I am in West London, so probably a bit out.
Do I need to replace both coffin arms or just the driver side? Also can I buy just one? Porsche seem to sell them by the pair
You can buy in singles, I would just do the drivers side, there are no dangers in doing just one.
I think Hartech (PM Bazhart on here) can do re-con ones at a much better price than OPC or you can get aftermarket ones for about £125 equally as good
I think there was an article in one of the recent magazines (Total 911?) showing how to remove and re-bush the coffin arms? Lots of pics - just what I need!
sorry Raj
passengers? music? i see you might not have this 911 driving thing down just yet
but more seriously i have had great service from JAZ porsche just opposite wembley stadium, this shouldnt be too far from you if you are in west london, either give them a call (0208 903 1118) or drop by and discuss with them they dont bite
the little bit of road leading up to them is sufficiently rough to diagnose the problem with a 100m drive
cheers
tim
Btw, I should have mentioned, this squeak does not happen all the time - usually after prolonged driving. Is that still characteristic of the coughing arm?
Well I have done a fair amount of research now and it seems this is a common problem. However, what is also common is that the cause can be a number of things. What I don't want to do is go straight into replacing everything and ending up with a huge bill. I would rather isolate the problem and try the smaller fixes before moving to the bigger fixes.
I have read that to remedy the ball joint, liberal application of grease using a syringe may help isolate the problem - i.e. once you get the squeak going, grease the ball joint and see if the squeak goes (or reduces in intensity).
Anyway...I'll let you know how it goes. If anyone has any insights, please do share.
