also if you have it checked make sure they keep the tester on for more than a few seconds
Leading evidence: 'Check make sure they keep the tester' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Diagnosis is then more tricky, I know that tracker units can draw current if their internal battery fails, if that happens they will change the unit without too much fuss.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all.....
i dont really use my 996tt much, but should the battery go flat after say 5 days?
its had a new battery last Aug 09, i double lock lock the car so it shuts down, but i cant understand why the battery goes flat so quick?? surelly it should last longer than this?
I rang OPA Leeds, who fitted the battery, as it has a 2 year warranty, yet they said this normal??? and will charge to check if the battery has a drain?? thought this was a bit unreasonable...
Any ideas?? although will buying a ctek trickle charger next
flat battery
I have a 2003 targa with a new battery in 2009 and im lucky to start it after only 2 days.It really puts the damper on owning such a great car.Bought the car at xmas and it has a 3 month warranty so will hopefully be sorted.I even leave the fuse box cover off permanently so I can jump it easily.I only need to drive it about 6 or 7 miles and it will start first time every time for about 24 hours,so it is obviously charging ok but draining when parked up.

It seems to be a Porsche thing, although 5 and as said 2 days is unreasonable and would point to a drain somehwere. The thing I and many others do if your car is not a daily runner is to hook it up to a trickle charger when not in use. (Continuous full drain of a battery will ruin it very quickly.)
They are a godsend and keep the battery charged up by allowing a small amount of charge to top it up. Once full it goes between a charge and discharge to ensure the battery is not damaged and therefore can be left on for weeks or months at a time. The C-tec charger seems to be the make most use. I dont but mine does the same thing.
Its the only way :thumb:
Do you mean the battery is actually going flat (so you can't crank the car) or do you mean that the remote stops working after 5 days? This is normal, as the alarm system goes into energy-saving mode after 5-days, disabling the remote function.
BTW, double-locking only disables the interior monitoring sensor - nothing else.
Thanks for the replies...
The car battery actually goes flat, if i try and start the car after say 5 days, it sets the alarm then and then the start motor just makes a ticking noise....
It is such a pain, when my BMW if even left for a week and half will start with ease... its weird...
Battery
hi Guys
have a 2003 cab and the car started ofter three weeks no problem
if your battery is only lasting 2 to 5 days then there is a serious drain or the battery is no good
make sure you have a good charge when running about 14v is normal
also if you have it checked make sure they keep the tester on for more than a few seconds
regards steve

There does seem to be a common problem of current drain when the car is parked up, and this may be your issue too. AA or similar can do a test to measure it to confirm that is the problem.
Diagnosis is then more tricky, I know that tracker units can draw current if their internal battery fails, if that happens they will change the unit without too much fuss. Also remember a post on here about current draining back through the alternator when parked due to a failed diode (electrical equivalent of a one-way valve as I understand it).
Good luck with it. Fix the cause then change the battery and life improves no end! And lots of folk reckon the Halfords 4 year guarantee is good
