Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Replace above' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace above' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

is totally interchangeable from a functional point of view (ie they fit and work as intended), albeit with some minor design tweaks, manufacturing spec changes, country of manufacture or colour etc, dependent on exact "dot" revision.

Suggestion
The reason you can normally ignore the last set (4th set) is that they generally relate to colour finish or country of manufacture or intra-specification material change.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Bloody hell!
Technically it is a Mk2 3.6 revision 996 airbox (Carrera models).
However, I am not aware of any functional difference for boxes between generations 3.4/3.6. (could be just a new material formulation)
GT[2/3] and Turbos are a completely different design.
Even the 997 Carrera airboxes are identical footprint and tube locations, just a slicker exterior design. In fact, you can put a nice new Carrera 997 airbox straight in a Carrera 996 engine bay.
Yes.
But if you want to be sure you could always call an OPC and give them your chassis number and ask what the part number you need for your car's airbox is.
Then if they match BINGO!
One thing to note is you generally only need the the first 3x3 digits.
ie 996.110.021
The first three indicate the first model the part applied to (for example some 996 and 997 parts still bear 993 part numbers as they haven't changed).
The reason you can normally ignore the last set (4th set) is that they generally relate to colour finish or country of manufacture or intra-specification material change.
For functional parts this is usually irrelevant.
The 4th set often denote design revision.
A 5th set usually denotes colour.
In the 3rd set, an even number denotes RHS and an odd number LHS.
God - I must get out more!
Any idea what ".59" means in this case then?
Also, with regards to the 3rd set, what happens to the parts that are not handed?
I guess from the ".021" of the universal/ambidextrose (!) airbox, an odd number is the default (meaning not handed when LHS/RHS is not relevant).
Worse still I can still remember honda and ford part numbers from 10 years ago ! ! ! ! ! ( oh and some rover ones but they were normally 3 and 3 so not very difficult sums the cars up i guess)
I did say "often".
The first issue of this airbox was 996.110.021.56 for the C2 and 996.110.021.58 for the C4
Presumably 59 was a design revision for 58, but this isn't shown in the current PET
Then 996.110.921.50 replaced both the above
996.110.921.51 is the current revision.
As I suspected, so the actual base airbox designation
996.110.021
is totally interchangeable from a functional point of view (ie they fit and work as intended), albeit with some minor design tweaks, manufacturing spec changes, country of manufacture or colour etc, dependent on exact "dot" revision.
