Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Found this snapped bolt and double washer in my driveway and trying to figure out if it’s from my Cayman ? I park on the street usually but did pull in over the weekend for a wash and found this bolt a couple days later. Size M10 triple square spline, yellow marking paint pen, AF 12.9 internal markings, slightly twisted double washer. 2007 Cayman Base Tiptronic I thought it was from my rear CV axle which I removed years ago when I did my coilover install, but those are all accounted for and a larger M12 size with a slightly different double washer shape. So where else could this be from? Perhaps my wife’s 2017 Audi Q7 that is the driveway daily parking spot? Help my solve this missing bolt mystery.

POST 5Original post

Not exactly sure myself, but I saw a similar looking part on another thread here just the other day: PDK Catastrophic Failure ? You said it wasn't the CV axles, but just wanted to make sure you checked both ends of each axle?

That looks like the winner to me. Good find.

POST 7Original post

Thanks for input here. I don’t remember ever seeing these triple square bolts on the calipers during any of my front or rear brake jobs. Header bolts are conventional 13mm(?) hex bolts from what I can see. Good eyes coming across the CV bolts in the linked thread, but as I initially posted, I thought the same until I checked and those are beefier M12 size triple square bolts and this is an M10. Please keep the guesses coming and I’ll cross check on my car. Thanks to the community here.

POST 9Original post

I'm voting for the Audi . Those look very similar to the ones on the GTI that I just sold.

POST 10Original post

That looks like a CV joint bolt, not exhaust . That's my unprofessional opinion.

POST 11Original post

Winner! Driveshaft bolts from the Audi Q7 connecting to rear transaxle differential. Everyone else was on the right track as I was initially, thinking it was bolts axle to CV boots on the Cayman (as well as the Audi surprisingly). Present on both driver and passenger trans side, not on wheel hub side. Earlier reply with posted photo link is spot on. Same “type” of triple square spline bolt, but those are larger beefier M12 and this mystery bolt was a smaller M10. Thanks for the help community. Mystery solved and repairs planned… for the Audi . Cayman gets a clean bill of health and back to spirited daily drives.

POST 13Original post

Now I'm really curious Any idea how that fell out of the Audi ? Was the driveshaft out recently? I've done a lot of driveshaft swaps on multiple cars and can't say I've ever had one of the bolts loosen up like that. How many of the bolts ultimately fell out? Curious since that bracket is obviously held in by 2 bolts.
