Hi This light has just come on (perm on no flashing). Engine seems to idling and running perfecttly, reset mpg and no change there. I am getting the faults dowloaded on Friday, any ideas what could be wrong, and if it is ok to drive carefully until then? It's an 02 996 TT 40k miles. What's the worst case scenario, cat? Any advice appreciated

You will be fine as long as the CEL doesn't start flashing. It could be any number of things - the fault codes should tell you.

thanks. I have an idea for the coils but how much does a MAF sensor? Am I right that it would be more risky to drive if the light was flashing on and off? thanks again

If the light is flashing you could potentially be doing damage to the cats. A MAF is about £200 (RRP £353) - contact Lloyd Six, as he gets them cheaper than most.

It could well be an faulty exhaust sensor so as they are cheap stick a new one of those on first, if the light comes on again after a couple of hundred miles and it displays a exhaust fault code youll know its the MAF that needs replacing.

Oxygen sensor is my bet. Although one I had a couple of years back was a sticky valve which was an engine out repair Good luck.
