Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
I think it is probably a case of Porsche laziness or arrogance (neither of which I put past them).
Leading evidence: 'case of porsche laziness or arrogance (neither of' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'case of porsche laziness or arrogance (neither of' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace display' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Well, I bought the bits and spent about 4 hours changing the LEDs.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

instead of the orange? I know the Audi unit can be used as a replacement, not sure what colour the display is though. Any ideas welcome :?

porscheleds do a kit, but it involves taking the unit to bits and soldering in LEDs.
I take it you got the instrument cluster LEDs in. How do they look? Did you get the OBC kit done at the same time?
Well, I bought the bits and spent about 4 hours changing the LEDs.
It's not the easist job to do as the LEDs are only 3mm square and melt as
soon as you point a soldering iron at them.
The longest job is plugging/unplugging the unit every time an LED is changed to check the
new LED is working as some of them are connected together.
Also did the instrument panel which is much easier but still requires plugging/unplugging
several times, only about 2 hours work.
Here's the result.

I'm just going down the led route.. so the bottom three are the 286.. which i can get, but for the dial backlights, rev counter etc, these are different type, to save me taking it apart twice, does anyone know what reference these are? are they the standard 509t type? like in
http://www.car-body-kit.co.uk/dashboard_led_bulbs.html
thanks
I just bought a few standard 509t leds, red for the lcd's and there are four backlights, of which two are 509t and two are larger, but luckily my led's were push fit and I put a couple in the larger sockets.
looks pretty good, not perfect but ok for a mod.
got some in the end from

I note your A/C unit says "manuell" not "manual", why is this? Mine has this too, i assumed it was because mine had been replace with a french unit at some point?
"Manuell" means "Manual" in, erm, German!
Whereas "Manuel" means "Manual" in French, alternatively it means "a put upon Spanish waiter in an English 1970s sit-com played by a German"
Interesting point, is everyones in german? this seems odd because my old Audi A6 had the same unit (porsche nicked it off Audi) and it definitely was in english!
Mine is in German. (pre-facelift)

Either that or it was a bid at world domination, one climate control display at a time.
