Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Never had any lurching, something sounds amiss - i'd take it to a specialist and get it checked over.
Leading evidence: 'Check over' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check over' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Car has a new clutch, RMS, IMS case fitted when I bought it.

Car is also due a service in a month or so and I will have it checked then by the people who did the clutch etc - unless anyone has a recommended indie in the Peterborough/ Lincs area?

In the first instance I decided to give fresh transmission oil a chance and the change from 1st to 2nd is massively better!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
Still learning the 996 after three months ownership (in the snow!) and having a fantastic time. But.... I seem to struggle to get a smooth gear change - for want of a better term there is a bit of a lurch/ clunk when I change. Not gear specific but less apparent the faster I drive!
Not sure if 'they all do that' or whether I have engine mount etc issues. Car has a new clutch, RMS, IMS case fitted when I bought it.
Any suggestions?
I Was going to say refer to the below, but I think you have also posted in this thread :dont know: :?:

Thanks Adam,
Yes, me again! The movement of the gear level itself is, to my mind, ok when warmed up. It's just that there is a sort of pause.... then a bit of a lurch when changing gear. No matter how I try I struggle to get a smooth change. Sort of feels like it may be either some movement of hardware or a slight delay in the power cutting in. Probably just my driving I'll stop wondering and just drive..
I think I know what you mean. I get it from time to time as I jump from the work car to the missus car to my other car and back to the pork again. It might just be miss timing your clutch/throttle/gearstick movements. My change gets smoother the more I drive it.
Also, from 1st to 2nd in particular, I was told you really need to get the clutch all the way down for a smooth change. A couple of mechanics and long term Porsche owners suggested that this may be part of the cause of the 1st/2nd gearbox problems that sometimes show up on the cars. Not sure if thats true or not but I'm trying not to test the theory
mine does exactly the same, I think its the oil type, these boxes seems really fussy regarding oil type and its fluidity when cold. I've just changed to a top of range Silkoline GL4/GL5 type and its worse than cheaper GL4 brand.
If its too slippery like the latest oils are, although offering huge mechanical protection, the syncro gears don't spin up the next gear too well resulting in a notchey change. Going to try a simple Redline 75w90 next.
I'm giving Redline 75W90NS a whirl in a couple of weeks to see what difference it makes with the syncros, I find 1st to 2nd really hard, but 3rd to 2nd is fine. 2nd to 1st and back to 2nd is also fine so I'm confident the box and syncro are ok mechanically.
Heard conflicting stories, need to investigate more.
I don't want to get it wrong but really want a smoother shift, may well just get fresh OEM :dont know:
Hi and thanks for all the comments. I think I may be like speed8 - just switching between cars (VW and Audi) and the pork just needs some settling in. We're off for a weekend in Northumberland in a couple of weeks so I'll get the chance for a longer stint than usual. Car is also due a service in a month or so and I will have it checked then by the people who did the clutch etc - unless anyone has a recommended indie in the Peterborough/ Lincs area?
Off to think about oil now.....
In the first instance I decided to give fresh transmission oil a chance and the change from 1st to 2nd is massively better!
So, happy for now and keeping the Redline option on hold until further notice
