Having used Milltek exhausts on other cars I have owned I rate them highly, but they don't seem to win much praise on 996 forums.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I know this debate has done the rounds, but given there is no way I am going to stump up £ 2.5K ex fitting for a PSE, what is the Milltek exhaust like? Having used Milltek exhausts on other cars I have owned I rate them highly, but they don't seem to win much praise on 996 forums. Has anyone on here used them who can give some feedback? Cheers

POST 2Original post

Hi Blue one, I have been doing research on 996 exhausts for a few weeks (thinking about a change myself) The only one's I am getting good feedback are.. Fabspeed - Well made, and good value £900 Europipe - Very well made, £1400 Cargraphic - A little loud £1550 M&M (Manthey) - £1700 Never read a good or bad review on the 996 Miltek Mufflers ! Or go with the bypass mod route with your current mufflers ?? £0-£280 (depending if you know someone who can weld £280=hayward and scott carrying out the mod) The bypass sounds like PSE, without the switch ! (do a search on here) Hope this helps ? Dan

POST 3Original post

Blue one I have a Miltek on my 996, and it's everything you need in an exhaust system. Whether it adds much to performance I doubt, but ***** me does it sound good! At about 5 thousand revs it suddenly screams into action and just puts a grin on your face from ear to ear. I confess to driving with my window down at times just to listen to the sound..... and don't get me started on tunnels!! The long and short of it is this: It won't add anything discernible to your performance but it DOES sound a million dollars. If you're willing to fork out the cash JUST to improve how your 911 sounds then go for it. I haven't regretted it, far from it. Hope that helps.

POST 4Original post

Milltek Hi Blue one, Ive had these fitted about 20 months ago and I,m well pleased with them.Car sounds much better, rocks a little at lights etc good vibes throught he car as well, look at the passenger seat at a standstill and it vibrates a little.Very well made boxes no rattles as yet but would like just a little more noise tho !!!!!!!!!

POST 5Original post

I am a fan of Milltek and am very pleased with the one I have on my Audi however, I hated the droning I had on mine when it was on my 996T. My mate's Techart was the same. I understand the Turbo doesn't do so well on aftermarket exhausts (hence Porsche don't offer one). I had them modify it to 200 cell cats and then to alter some internal pipes but although it then was under 105db, it still boomed really badly at 2.5k revs - exactly the band for motorways. Trips to Germany were spoilt. I now have an X50 exhaust (same as standard I think) at the moment which is bliss. Europipe would be my first choice - stage 2 quiet. I recommend you have a really long drive in one first. Cheers

Thanks everyone, I plan to go ahead with this if I can

POST 8Original post

Hello Blue One, Well I have the Haywood & Scott modified exhaust on mine and think it's great. When you also consider the costs it's got to be about the best about. Sound is very similar to the PSE although i think a touch quieter.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
