Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Why despite the car having a full Porsche service history and supposely having had plugs changed twice before, the most recent one was only 8000 miles ago where ther plugs clearly the original ones and absolutlely knackered.
Leading evidence: 'Replace twice' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair heat shield' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Once the transmission is out of the car for a clutch replacement for example, the RMS and IMS areas become accessible to repair the leaks.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just got my 996TT back from a having a bit of work done.
Recently had it remaped and the clutch was slipping, dont think this was as a result of the remap, think it was on its way out before, but the remap was the final nail in the coffin.
Anyway, it went in for a new clutch, may as well get a full service including plugs while the clutch is out. Oh, and fancied a short shift gear lever as well.
Why is there always other things that need doing at the same time.
The total job ended up as
New uprated clutch
Full service including all filters and plugs and oil
Short shift gear lever
Modify exhaust for a bit better sound
Unexpected items
Two new turbo heat shields (rotten)
Repair heat shield on exhaust as also rotten
Oil leak from front diff, new seal fitted and oil
4 wheel alignment as running tyres off
Replace all manifold and turbo nuts as all corroded
Guess how much that lot cost ?
The good news is the car drives better than ever, the remap now allows boost up to 1.1 bar, the sound from the exhaust is great, not too loud but a definate improvement over the standard set up, and the quick shift has transformed the "throw" of the gear lever, much more precise and positive and only half the travel of previous.
It also runs so much smoother, guess the new plugs helped that. Why despite the car having a full Porsche service history and supposely having had plugs changed twice before, the most recent one was only 8000 miles ago where ther plugs clearly the original ones and absolutlely knackered. Guess the previous owner paid for work that was not done.
Anyway, the car is transformed,
Next mod will hopefully be a double din audio setup.
Cheers
Rich
id say 1750 if you got it done at an indy.
I had my clutch, RMS and IMS all done for £900.
Porsche aren't that expensive to run if you have a good Indy garage to look after it.
Recently i had my alternator fail and i got that removed and refurbished as good as new for £190 .
But when i used to use OPC it once cost me near on £300 to have four exhaust bolts replaced. . . !!
I'm gonna up the ante to 3.5k at an Indy.
Would have thought the first (scheduled) list of jobs would come in at nearly 2k, although the clutch price does depend quite heavily on whether the flywheel was replaced at the same time and whether RMS was done.
"I had my clutch, RMS and IMS all done for £900."
Sorry to sound thick, but what are RMS and IMS?
Also, where was this work carried out? I am looking around at good Indys at the mo for work and servicing etc.
RMS - Rear Main Seal; Oil Seal at rear of engine crank shaft, notorious on manual 996's for leaking, being replaced and then leaking again.
IMS - Intermediate Shaft, this bearing has a cover which can also leak engine oil into the bell housing / clutch area, just as the RMS does.
Once the transmission is out of the car for a clutch replacement for example, the RMS and IMS areas become accessible to repair the leaks.
RMS and IMS as above !
I get all my work done at a Porsche specialist called Autowerke in Norwich 01603 408044
The guy that does all my work is actually the guy that used to work and look after my car at the OPC, so i know its in safe hands.
If you are having the clutch done on you car you might as well have the RMS and IMS done at the same time whilst the gearbox is off and vise versa.
