UMA' plates was fine, but aren't there already enough badges on the car and anyway what do you do when you change models?

It just makes the car feel more like you own it and people know its yours - maybe not specifically who you are but replacing whatever it was on before.

It would take far to long to run through all the complexities of the DVLA offerings on personalised plates.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After three weeks I finally get to put my plates on the car. Somehow it just convinces me that my forty year ambition has been fulfilled.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought a personal import Puma back in 2000 I wanted a six digit, non-ageing plate for it but I personally feel the ones that spell your name or initials if you squint a bit or think that a '4' is the same as an 'A' are the height of naffness. And the vogue then for 'P? UMA' plates was fine, but aren't there already enough badges on the car and anyway what do you do when you change models? The year plate then started with X and symmetry dictated that another X at the end would look good. It is but a small hop from there to a spoof roman numeral plate.

POST 4Original post

Nice plate, I like the roman numeral look and think it looks good to have something eye catching rather than messing with spacing and nuts in odd places. I've got XIII UFO (my brothers silver C2 is next door to it in the photo) welcome to the XI club :thumb:

POST 6Original post

I too went for something slightly different. N30 OEN ; I have yet to get the plates doctored so that the 3 is represented by a backwards E. When people ask the meaning, I tell them that I wanted a plate that would read the same if the car was lying upside down in a ditch! Not had many passengers lately....strange........

POST 8Original post

Okay so I read this post with interest... because I just don't really get these plate combinations... :?: So what exactly is the situation with personalised plates in the UK, are they not available? Or do you have to search out randomly generated combinations that together form some semblance of uniqueness? And if so why has the UK government not decided to offer the option of personalised plates? We've had them in NZ for years now and they are fantastic fun...

POST 9Original post

It's mainly middle aged saddos who need to lift their egos by creating smart a*sed letter and number combos to show off to their mates!! I've had mine for about 10 years :thumb:

POST 10Original post

Have you notified your insurer. I too got my plate put on 3-4 weeks after collecting the car. It was only when I came to renew my tax online that I realised I had not notified my insurer and the car was not on the data base! I was so chuffed to have my plates back on, I obviously forgot.

POST 11Original post

Right... so out of curiosity how much do these sorts of plates cost? I know with the plates I've bought here in NZ the most I've paid is about $1,000 (400 pounds) which was for a Porsche crested plate...

POST 12Original post

I'm emigrating. :thumb: Do you have a points system for becoming a Kiwi. I like Rugby if that helps

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It would take far to long to run through all the complexities of the DVLA offerings on personalised plates. But if you are really interested chapter and verse is here: http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/ When you look at any car objectively the index plates are a significant part of the front and rear views. My aim was to create a plate that looked nice and neat, nothing more. Other than the usual aim of not having an age-related number showing. IIRC the cost was £295 but you then have to pay to move it from car to car Out of interest the Jaguar now carries my wife's plate - M11XXM .

POST 14Original post

Started to read it, but it all looked to confusing and my attention span isn't that great... If you want to have some fun as to how easy it should be, check out our site here in NZ... http://www.plates.co.nz/

POST 15Original post

I get the whole personalised plate thing - we've got a few. It just makes the car feel more like you own it and people know its yours - maybe not specifically who you are but replacing whatever it was on before. I've never paid more than £400 for one and don't expect I ever will, but they suit us well. My two cars and my wifes all have personalised regs but my bike hasn't - just seem to have never got round to it yet. Looks great
