I know that is not what I have seen on the Cayman photos so I am thinking that the color has changed somewhat from that year or model.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I'd like to introduce myself & say hello. Been checking out the site for a while now and just decided to register cause I feel I can't resist much longer - can't resist ordering the car. Been in the market for a mid engined car since I sold my old 986. Anyway, I see one of my question has been answered. It's in regard to purchase price. The answer was as expected; like any new model, price is pretty much MSRP (been there 4 times /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/confused_smile.gif) 2nd question is about color: At first I was going for midnight blue but after checking out a Boxster in that color, I'm finding it too dark. The other option is Lapis blue. Cobalt blue seems too pricey for me but ... Does anybody know what color this is: If it is Cobalt Blue then I'm screwed (>$3k just for color?!?) My other option is Atlas Gray. Interior will be black. Though if I'm insane enough to order the Cobalt blue, I might as well get the black/gray interior ($2.5K!!) ** color choice insanity does not imply that people who got that color are insane, just insane for ME to get it. Hope I didn't offend anyone /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/hi.gif - Chris

POST 2Original post

While checking out the Boxster, I ran into a Lapis Blue 997. Though it's kinda cloudy today, I'm hoping this is THE blue color ...

POST 3Original post

Hey Chris welcome to the site. We are all past the point of being sane here so offending people is very difficult when we are talking about our passion. I'm not good with the blue cars but I'm sure there are some here that will know. Anyway glad to have you here.

POST 5Original post

Thanks Sante Fe! We're all passionate about cars that's for sure /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/regular_smile.gif

POST 6Original post

Welcome Chris. I think the photos of the blue Cayman are cobalt which, like all the Porsche metallics, looks different under different lighting.

POST 7Original post

check out the images section for good pics of Cobalt Blue or the new pictures listing for today has a nice one of a Cobalt Cayman. I'd say it was Lapis Blue but I haven't seen any pictures of Lapis at any of the dealer demos/press outings so I bet it's Midnite Blue. With the metallic colors you usually get about 3 different colors in one depending on lighting conditions. My Ocean Blue Boxster looks bright blue in sunlight, sometimes has a purple tint, and looks very dark, almost black in overcast conditions. When parked next to a Midnite Blue, they are hard to tell apart unless it's bright and sunny but midnite has more purple tint than mine. Lapis is a much brighter blue. Good luck with your color choices, you can't really go wrong with any of them. I prefer metallics just because they offer such variations in color depending on the light.

POST 8Original post

Thanks for that description. My old Boxster was Ocean Blue too - I liked that color, kinda rare to see dark blue Porsches I'm with you on the metallics - my preference as well. I guess I'll wait till more blue Porsches show up to decide (maybe by then the price will be negotiable)

POST 9Original post

I have a strange feeling it's cobalt blue based on this pic in the galleries: Notice the PCCB & the rims are the same. Heard this was from the French Press gathering. ** Thanks DaveC Sigh /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/embaressed_smile.gif Edited by - Chris_BayArea on 12/28/2005 6:23:20 PM

POST 10Original post

Yes that car is Cobalt and as you discovered one of the press cars. I would say that Cobalt does NOT look like that most of the time, it is the lighting and exposure that makes it look that way in those photos. Cobalt is typically lighter/brighter especially in direct sunlight.

POST 11Original post

This blue is a beauty when it's spotlessly clean.

POST 12Original post

Yes, that picture is what steered me towards a blue Cayman ... That has to be midnight blue. Looks fantastic under the sun & when it's spotless

POST 13Original post

Chris, That first pic is in fact cobalt blue and that is exaclty what I ordered along with 19'Carrera Classics. What I have discovered is that the color looks very different in some photos from others. I have yet to see it in person, but in less than 3 weeks I will! Aloha Russ

POST 14Original post

Welcome Chris! Cobalt Blue is a great color, but as K-man S stated earlier it usually looks darker in photos but is brighter in direct sunlight. You really should see it in person if possible before making the $3k decision. Lapis and Midnight are also good........but as you know Midnight is pretty dark and needs to be kept clean to show it off. Lapis isvery bright and has lots of iridescent qualities when in the sunlight. Lapis would look stunning with a Stone Grey interior (same as the 997 you saw) with some interior pieces painted to match the exterior........very nice contrasts if that's what you like. Atlas Grey (my color of choice /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/teeth_smile.gif) is a pretty complex color.......mostly grey with about 5% blue thrown in. In direct sunlight it shows the blue much better, but on a cloudy day it looks more of a dark grey. If your looking for a strong blue.......Atlas won't do it for you, but you might want to try and see it in person anyway. Sample of what Atlas looks like when in direct sunlight....... <input type="image" height="600" width="800" src="/UserFiles/02_3.jpg" />

POST 15Original post

Lot's of Atlas Grey pictures here: http://www.kcrpca.org/boxster.asp Different lighting conditions too.

POST 16Original post

I saw a guys 2002 Carrera the other day and he said that it was Cobalt Blue, IT WAS DARK! I thought it was dark blue with not much metalic. I know that is not what I have seen on the Cayman photos so I am thinking that the color has changed somewhat from that year or model. I also saw a Lapis in person and it looked like a purple blue to me, just too much purple contrast. Russ

POST 17Original post

Russ, I would say he was wrong about the color then......should have checked the paint code! I guess it all depends on what a person perceives light and dark as. I would say Cobalt is a stong metallic medium bluewith Midnight being the dark one.

POST 18Original post

I did check the paint code, but where do I decifer it? LZ43. Russ

POST 19Original post

Russ - LZ43 seems like it could be a valid code, but it doesn't match any Porsche code for that year or any other year for that matter. I'm almost betting it was a paint to sample car if indeed the code is correct. Here is the list.... http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?autocom=content&code=colors_carrera

POST 20Original post

Atlas, You right about that, doesn't match or even come close to any codes. I looked on the sticker under the front lid, but there were several other numbers. I will have to go back and check it again. Thanks Russ

<blockquote id="quote">quote:<hr noshade="" id="quote" height="1" /> Lot's of Atlas Grey pictures here: http://www.kcrpca.org/boxster.asp Different lighting conditions too. <hr noshade="" id="quote" height="1" /></blockquote> Wow! Stunningly beautiful pictures! This is where I first saw the 2 tone interior, nice! If they charged under 2k for it, I would've gone for it. I'm now down to 4 colors.. Wait, I started out with 4 colors, haha <still confused> Will wait for Russ' car to come in and wait for his real life pics /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/regular_smile.gif Thanks guys, this site (as mentioned many times) is great! POST 22Original post

Chris, When I get mine you can count on pictures from every angle and in every light. I have a fairly new Canon 20D that is ready and waiting for my sweetheart! Aloha Russ

POST 23Original post

I still think the first picture is Midnite Blue. The picture above posted by mpollard says it is Midnite Blue according to the post in the Cayman Images section. The two pictures look like a match to me, both are the same color. As Atlas Croc says, Cobalt is a much brighter blue. Guess the only way to know for sure is crosscheck the license plate numbers or ask someone who was there (same castle in the background of pics).

POST 25Original post

Carmon Red, I will agree with you that the Boxster is definately a beautiful Cobalt, the rest of the pics are up for grabs. I have seen Cobalt that looks real dark and then very light. When mine gets here we will know for sure. Russ

POST 26Original post

I just saw this car while riding my bike, and yes I do carry my camera with me almost everywhere. He special ordered this COBALT BLUE, so there is no doubt that is what it is, but it looks so dark! Even darken in person.
