Took it to the local dealer today and the service manager looked at it and said he would recommend it be replaced but due to the high cost of the deck lid Porsche would have to approve it over the phone or may want to send a rep to look at it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Factory Warranty on my 99 runs out in two weeks. A few items I want corrected are whistle at speeds above 50 mph, the radio ***** peeling and my rear deck has two small cracks between the vents just below the spoiler another slightly noticable but rather long crack on the engine compartment lid. The fiberglass cracks are all on the one piece deck lid/spoiler. Will or should Porsche replace the entire deck lid or will they try and talk me into reparing the fiberglass?? I would like the entire deck replaced but am concerned about paint matching?Any other info anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bill

POST 2Original post

With respect to the rear deck lid, there was a recall on this to address some corrosion problem. Were you part of this recall?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No I wasn't. This is an aero kit deck lid.....all one piece and all fiberglass. Do you know if there is a tsb on it? ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Took it to the local dealer today and the service manager looked at it and said he would recommend it be replaced but due to the high cost of the deck lid Porsche would have to approve it over the phone or may want to send a rep to look at it. Manager said they may want to fix it. Well I don't want it fixed, I want it replaced. I have fixed fiberglass problems before on other things and the cracks reappear or break out some where else. I started out with one crack on the deck lid and in the past month two have appeared just below the spoiler on each side of the vent and now two more have appeared on one side of the actual spoiler and three on the other side. What recourse do I have it they insist on repair instead of replace?? Thanks for you feedback. Bill

POST 4Original post

I don't know about a TSB but my 99 also had the factory aero kit and it was included in the recall program. I didn't have any problems but I assume they would have replaced it if I did. Karl

POST 5Original post

The Rear Engine Deck Lid Corrosion (Service Action W103) of Jan 2001 excluded any car with the XAA option (aerokit). The voluntary recall was for rear deck lid corrosion was for certain VIN numbers that were apparently missed at the factory. The only TSB for aerokit car (other than installation) was for a few wings that had the fan purge wiring harness wired wrong. Sorry, but it's up to your dealer (and PCNA) at this point.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Loren, Could the H & R suspension upgrade have anything to do with this problem?? Possibly some kind of stress on the fiberglass deck. It is showing small cracks at stressful points on the lid. Thanks, Bill

POST 7Original post

Well, it's hard to tell. With a stiff enough suspension you can crack paint (and welds) all over the car. Most serious race cars are this way which is why they are rebuilt or gone through after every race/season. Was the aerokit factory or aftermarket installed? Did someone put something heavy or lean on the spoiler?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

aerokit is factory and nothing has ever been placed on it or been leaned on. I wouldn't allow that!! unless I didn't see it!!

POST 9Original post

I had an aerokit car and got the recall notice from PCNA. My car came with XAA from the factory. I took the car into the dealer and they performed the recall service on it. They inspected it and sprayed some crap on the underside. As for suspension stiffness causing the wing to crack, that wasn't a problem in my experience. I ran Protrac double adjustable struts and Hypercoil 800 lb spring on the rear without any cracking. The car was like this for 3 years and about 80 track days, plus street driving. IMHO there is some flaw in the materials or manufacture and PCNA should replace or repair to your satisfaction. Karl Karl

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Karl & Loren Thanks for the feedback. Just have to wait and see what the dealer offers. Should know today or tomorrow. WIll let you know. Loren, I was thinking about what you said about someone leaning on the spoiler. I have had the car in for two services and had to leave it both times. Possible someone in the shop could have leaned on it. Who knows what goes on in the shops?? Thanks again.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, spoke to my local dealer today and he told me the factory rep from PCNA said they would not cover this!! How can that be? They are questioning it being an option when new. He also made some statement that the factory rep ran a history check on the vehicle and said I was the third owner. So what? What difference should that make when the car is still under warranty? The car was originally titled in Arizona, then California and now I have it in PA. Well I have the cert of authenticy and the option codes listed under trunk lid and it clearly states XAA which is the option code for an aerokit. Now I have to take a digital picture and a photcopy of the option codes in my owners manual and fax it to the local guy who said he will pass it on to the PCNA rep. Why would the factory rep says it is not covered when he knows from tracing the history of the car that it is indeed a factory installed aerokit?? I wanted it replaced not repaired and they are telling me it is not even covered. I think I am getting jerked around royally. Any suggestions?

POST 12Original post

No info on your aero kit, but as for your other questions: I had whistles above 70 that were adjusted under warranty - I think they lubed some seals and may have adjusted my passenger window The radio ***** too are covered under a 1999 TSB (11/99 9120/24 (11-18-99)). If just your buttons are peeling, they'll give you a new face plate. If the buttons and ***** are peeling, they will need to replace the entire head unit with a refurbished one. This should not be an issue at all to get fixed.
