Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone know - for certain - if an automatic climate control unit can be switched into a car originally equipped with manual? I've had the dash apart and it's a simple
plug
-in unit on a rack with the radio and lower row of buttons (spoiler,
pasm
, etc). One dealer told me it is not possible as it requires a new wiring harness, the other told me it can be easily swapped. I'm inclined to believe the latter opinion, but I want to be sure before I order one. I can't stand not having it after having cars equipped with automatic control for the last 20 years.
For those wondering, the dealer price I got for the unit (not labor) is $595. Much cheaper than I feared.
Alan
Total joke that, these aren't standard Equipment(auto climate, heated seats, power seats, short shift, auto dim mirror, power tilt steering wheel..............) for a $70K car!
Porsche
just charges, charges & charges for everything.

definatively...no. but my dealership told me no when i asked. I talked to the sales manager though, not the parts or service department. They said there would be issues with programming or something like that. I would really really really be interested if it were possible.
I've talked them into ordering one and trying it on a car in the lot. I'll let everyone know if it works.
I'm not sure how much of the frustration comes from the manual control versus just beinginfuriated that I payed that much for a car that doesn't have it standard. Ditto auto diming mirrors.
Adax - life is too short (now that I'm 62 I can say that/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/cry_smile.gifto be infuriated by small things. Live, love, enjoy and don't sweat the small stuff.
Well, the dealer ordered the automatic unit for me and they installed it and tried to get it to work for about 2 hours. 3 hardware codes came up that they couldn't resolve. After a phonecall to
Porsche
(why they didn't do this first?), they determined that it cannot be done without changing the wiring harness and other parts of the climate control system.
So there's your answer
Alan
You have to give it to
Porsche
for taking their Marketing 101 course seriously... They have the longest list of options I've ever seen from any manufacturer... Then to add insult to injury they dole out technology in small increments... Mark my words in 2-3 years the 3.8 engine will be standard... Oh well, I'm a
Porsche
fanatic for life... I truly love my
Cayman
... My wife has a 2002 996
Carrera
Cab and I constantly tell her how fantastic it is just so she won't discover the pure joy of driving a
Cayman
!!!

Hi guys, do we know what the codes were? There is enough parts available from damaged cars to retrofit at reasonable cost.
I looked at the wiring diagram and can only see the two wires for the solar sensor and the different climatronic unit.
Anyone know any more?
cheers
I looked into this when I first bought my 07
Cayman S
. I got similar back and forth answers that you have gotten. But the majority of responses said you need to change out the AC compressor to one that will work with the new controller. I dropped it. I've had my car for over a year now and never even think about an automatic climate control. It's just not an issue. The manual works fine.
My only wish for manual controls is the simple addition of two buttons: "Max Heat" and "Off"
Then it would be perfect AFAIC. Auto would be nice, but 3 settings are everything I need in a drop-top. (The 3rd being Max A/C)
Well, a few years have gone by and has anyone had another go at retro fit? Ie scientific approach not I asked so and so etc
As I posted before, there is a solar sensor that the poster above did not fit so this would have caused at least one fault on the system.
ps not interested in you don't need it or why you want type replies. Just the facts ma'am )

My experience with this is that it mostly works. My recirc flap did not work when I did this swap and I got a bunch of error codes when I did a scan with my
Durametric Pro
. See the following thread:
Replacing regular AC with Auto AC?
I also looked into the parts for the auto climate control compared to manual climate control, and there are different sensors, wiring harnesses, flap motors, and the entire core has different part numbers too. It appears that there are substantial differences besides the control unit.
It would be interesting to see if anyone else got similar error codes.
Thanks for the link and adding your experience. I have an 05BS and picked up an 06C auto control - should be here in a few days. Since I don't have Sport Chrono or PCM I'm optimistic on my chances of "mostly working". I don't use recirculation mode much so I wouldn't be too disappointed if that might be the only feature that doesn't work.
I installed an Auto Climate Control module from an 07CS into my 05BS and it was pure
plug
-and-play. But as others have reported, the Recirculation button illuminates on/off but doesn't control the functionality. Has anyone investigated the pin-outs/wiring diagram for the controller to see if it's a matter of moving a wire or two?
Sorry to revive an old thread but does anyone have anymore feedback on this for a
987.2
? I'd like to swap my 2011
Cayman
's manual climate control to automatic.
Just to be clear (and worthwhile dredging up this old post) your seat heaters still worked, front and rear defrost, AC off etc. temperature was automatically controlled correctly...It was just the recirc that didn't work? did you end up fixing that?
