Just called my mate and found out that the car has had no suspension mods but is fitted with intermediate tyres (basically raod legal slicks).

David - you are the first one I have run across that actually has first hand experience with an oiling problem.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows of any kits available to cure oil surge problems with 996 motor ( with the "integrated" dry sump). I am working on a car that was used at a local Porsche Club track day and as a result of oil pressure loss during cornering the no. 6 rod bearing failed, this blocked the oil passage to one of the main bearings and it has subsequently turned a nice shade of blue- not good. And the crankshaft is stuffed due to the failed rod bearing. Very expensive day and quite disappointing from a Porsche. Hope somebody can help us, Thanks in advance David

POST 2Original post

David - There is a kit available from Porsche Motorsport. Apparently it's not available thru dealers, and I couldn't find it at the large sites like Suncoast Motorsport or Carnewal (www.carnewal.com). Here is a link to a discussion the problem, with a couple brief mentions of the kit: http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=004013#000022 I hope this wasn't your car? If so, geez that s*cks.

POST 3Original post

David, What year was the 996, and what year did Porsche implement a factory fix for all production cars? Thanks, Robert

POST 4Original post

David - you are the first one I have run across that actually has first hand experience with an oiling problem. Can you tell us more about the car (like modifications) and how the failure occurred?

POST 5Original post

That is the first I have heard too. More details on the car... miles, # track days, what tires were used at the track, suspension, etc...

POST 6Original post

Porsche Motorsport North America or Andial in Anaheim California has the kits. In Australia you should be able to find the parts in the Tequipment Carrera Powerkit parts break down if kit available there. Pictured below is the kit installed on a Carrera Power Kit equipped engine. Note the extra pump behind the right hand exhaust cam with the oil line going to the front of the cam cover (pump kit in right foreground, pump and zig-zag line highlights almost white color parallel to the gray cam cover on bottom). Andial will drill your original cam cover for the installation of the oil line.

WOW!! You guys are real quick!! Thanks a lot for the info. In regards to the car setup, Suspension, tyres etc. Just called my mate and found out that the car has had no suspension mods but is fitted with intermediate tyres (basically raod legal slicks). Thanks again David
