When i inspected the fan i found that a stone from the road had jammed the blade stopping it from turning !
Leading evidence: 'Inspect fan i found' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'sensor, or the software problem' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check inlets and exits' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I removed the stone and spun the blade and it ran free.

Have you checked the inlets and exits for leaves, mouse nests etc?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm glad the problem was fixed and thanks for letting us know!
I've just got 3000 km on the CS. It seems to be running the coolant fans (in the front) an awful lot lately. It is warming up around here finally, today was about 29C (84F), but a few times today I would be on the open road and then hit a light or stop sign after a few miles and the damn fan would be running - they turn off sometimes but seem to run very often. My 2.7
Boxster
didn't seem to be on in those occasions - only in stop and go above let's say 25C. Is the 3.4 throwing off that much more heat? No warning lights and the coolant gauge is totally normal - engine runs fine. What do the CS's in the hotter climes do?
My experience in Tucson's heat last summer was the fan was usually on if the car was stationary or moving slow if the outside temp was 70's F or higher. Can't tell if it turned off at speed since I wouldn't be able to hear it. Parked, the fan would cycle on & off for nearly an hour after stopping on a hot (>100F) day, but my
Boxster S
would do that as well.
Greg
Mine C 2.7 recnetly found cooling fan run long time even in Cool temp.--like 5C. driving in road. I suspect there is a problem to let the fan so easy to start up.......
I tried it again------start the engine from cool,...warm it up, the Temp. ~~60C, radiator fan start to work. later the water temp. fixed at 80C.
I suspect the sensor, or the software problem!!
will disconnect
battery
reset the software programme\??
Finally, find out!:hilarious:
I went to distributor to check, left side fans ran at level 3 (highest), right side stoped. Bth side should ran simuteniously, from level 1, to 2, to 3 if need. Cecked righ side cable connections, a loose GROUNG! caused no signal feedback to
ECU
. tightened Grounding. The fans work well, not blow hard any more. And both side blow at same rate. haha....It caused 0.8 hours labor rate=USD70.
hi
seem to have same issue. i got my brand new
cayman
2 days ago (what a precise piece of machine), and the fans seems to be on allot even after a short drive and eve when the car is parked and fully locked.
i know the radiators are at front, but the fan seems to be in the side intake, "sucking" air really hard, and only in one side.. can it be something diconnected? is the fan at the front or the side intake?
thanks !!
btw, its a 2.9L
cayman
.
The fans for the radiator are at the front. There is also one on the right hand side that pulls air into cool the engine compartment that is controlled by a temp sensor in the engine bay. It can come on with the car off.
Mine doesn't run all the time but what are the current ambient temps there?
hi, thanks for the answer.
so, from my understanding, a fan in only one side of the intake is normal? no engine air intake in both sides? or also coolent fan and intake?
its around 82-95 dagree F (28-35 C).. not to hot the last days tough..
thanks
Only one fan on the side for engine compartment cooling. The other side intake is the engine air intake. Don't know why it would run all the time at that temperature.
Radiator fans in front for each radiator. They
exhaust
into the wheel wells.
I finally went to Porches Center, done a test, for some time, find the sencer connection on right cooling unit lose, so there is no signal send back to
ECU
, so the fans are running continiously.
just a general message to all having probs with the front cooling fan running exsessively.
My
2007 Cayman S
had this problem and i was quoted silly money to fix it but after some investigation i found the problem.
The right fan was blasting away even when the temp was only warm. This fan will work extra hard if the other fan is not working. Maybe siezed ?
I removed the left front wheel and the protective plastic shield at the front of the wheel arch to reveal the radiator and fan. I was told by a dealer that the front bumper had to come off to do this ????
When i inspected the fan i found that a stone from the road had jammed the blade stopping it from turning ! I removed the stone and spun the blade and it ran free. I re-assembled the car and all was fine ! Saved myself probably six or seven hundred pound in bills !
I hear the fan in the engine compartment now and then, but not the fans behind the front radiators ... are they easy to hear .. or are they maye not working ??
today was the first time that i've heard the engine compartment fan on. i returned home from the market (a leisurely drive) and took my purchases into the house. i then heard a sound coming from my car and i went outside to investigate...thats when i heard the fan (i also could feel air moving at the passenger side intake). its in the low to mid 80s (not unusual). why would the fan go on when i have not heard it before in my 5-1/2 years of ownership?
