Daz fancy a passenger?
I've still never been over 180mph and I feel its my duty to take any opportuniy to do so...
Hope Jeremyc is up for this, as despite my love of Pork his Cerby would be rather rapid up a bleeding long runway ................
edited to add- well the cerby might be a bit nippy, but I think for real speed bluesatin in his Ultima has got the potential to get within a whisker of 200 on the runway if he is up for it........
>> Edited by iguana on Monday 13th January 19:53
I was just about to check whether everyone would be happy to have the Blackpool Pleasure Bitch along....
I could be up for it if the day is open to all.
Iguana, Jeremy
If you two are up for it then count me in. Let me know if you're going to do it. I won't book up or send the cheque off if no else I know is going.
I am now sending you a copy of an email I received from Maurice (Maurice I trust this is OK, I know these people).
DAZ
Bluesatin, G Man - where are you?
Oh forgot to add.
Iguana. No problem with you having the passenger seat but can you meet me there. With a 10am kick off, I think the quickest route for me doesn't pass anywhere near your house.
DAZ
I don't think Bluesatin will get to 200mph because of his gearing. I bet Guy is the quickest to 160-170 though
I have driven the Bruntingthorpe straight, and...
1) It is *very* wide
2) The surface is not brilliant
3) You always brake too early, as it is frightening approaching the bank at the end at mega speeds
4) I only managed 140mph, but that was in an E36 M3 in the wet
5) To get the highest speeds, you need a rolling start from the bottom corner - a long hairpin. A standing start will limit the Vmax results.
If it is open to all, and I have some kind of supercar in my possession at the time, and there is a space left, I will pop along.
Otherwise, if it is open to spectators...

Has anyone else emailed Maurice to see if they/their car is OK for the event?
Has anyone sent their £100 off yet? I have not done so yet but if other PHers can confirm their attendance I will do so.
DAZ
Jeremy C - Have you emailed Maurice to see if your 420bhp cerbera being OK for the event? ie it's not only a Porsche day.
EDITED to say I have just emailed Maurice to see if it is a Porsche only event.

Craig.
Have you emailed Maurice and confirmed you attendance to him? prior to sending your cheque. ie it's not a porsche only day.
I am currently awaiting a reply from Maurice about the issue of non Porkers so that Jeremy C (Cerbera) can get his cheque book out.
As you may be aware we need to pay Maurice in advance.
cheers
DAZ
Excellent news Craig.
With the event not being a porsche only event. I will send a cheque out with tonights post.
DAZ
Iguana - see you there.
Jeremy C - Send the cheque mate, we can have a top gear re-run. Porker v Tiv.
Copy of email sent to Maurice 3 minutes ago. Come on Guys and Gals? get signed up:
Hi Maurice.
A cheque made payable to yourself will be in tonights post. Put me down as a definite.
I look forward to meeting everyone. I understand from Chris on Pistonheads that the event is not only a porsche event. Accordingly a colleage Mr Jeremy Copp may also be confirming his attendance in a Cerbera (420bhp). We may even have to do a re-run of a certain Top Gear comparison!!
Look forward to meeting everyone
Darren R.

PS - This email has been copied to the Pistonheads board as an encouragement to everyone else to get off their arses and get booked.
DAZ
Its fantastic you should be able to hit top speed even without the corner in most cars, run from the banking end up towards the hangars and parking.
Unfortunatly I can't make the date but I did go down before to do runs in the M3, I would like to do it in the Porsche as well.
Look how wide that runway is, we actualy did runs with four cars abreast no problem
Dazren
Would love to come in the Ult just to give it a winter blast. When is the deadline for payment as I need to get the suspension aligned and one of the wheel rims changed before it goes on te road again.
Guy
Well, you could help with marshalling the unruly crowds! Not to mention the TVR drivers!
Would be great to see an Ultima - I have nearly got to deposit stage more than once - if I only hadn't been done over by that Magnum bloke!!
Cheers, Maurice
I've sent off my £100 today so I will be joining you all with my 993TT (standard so far apart from the RUF wheels and laser jammer, but considering a sports cat modification).
On another note I have just heard that Arrowstar Racing (who I race Caterhams with) have an trackday at Goodwood on the 31st Jan with very few cars. The total number of cars will be limited to 15 or 16 at the most and so there should be loads of tracktime (all types of car welcome).
Normal price £245, but mention Steve and it will be £199. e-mail [email removed] if interested. Steve (new member)
Thanks for the post Steve - sounds like a good day.

Commercial advertising is not allowed on these forums, but as this is in the context of an existing thread, and I'm sure you meant to help the forum more than Pippa, you have my blessing this time
I know that Arrowstar and Pippa have not been held in the highest esteem by members of blatchat (Caterham 7 forums for those that don't know) and the discussions centred around financial disputes. This is fact, and not my opinion.
I am not sure of the resolution; the claims disputed may have been groundless.
However, I think it is only fair to ask any member of this forum sending money in advance to ANY COMPANY/PERSON to satisfy themselves as to the integrity of the other party.
I do not intend to turn this into an Arrowstar thread, so if anyone wants to discuss things further, they can email my profile off -forum.
Many thanks

Dazren,
What mods do you have on your TT. Is it X50 or standard. If X50 it'll be interesting to see the actual difference, especially at top end, X50 have a lower geared 6th, so theoretically should be a couple of MPH lower than my standard TT. But faster under acceleration.
Guess that depends on "end of runway awareness syndrome" !!
Tifosi
Standard manual X50. It has the same gearing as a non X50 turbo, but more power. When in Germany I've had 315kph clockspeed which is 195mph at 6,500 revs (red line). The limiter cuts in at 6,700 and the way it got to 195mph I am very confident the X50 has the power to take the car all the way to the limiter in 6th gear, ie 201mph clockspeed (Although I'm not going to try it)
I too am looking forward to swapping passenger runs? as I've not been in any other 996tt, so am keen to see if I notice the difference in torque.
cheers
DAZ
Hi Paul.
Should be an interesting run with both cars running 450bhp. I'm also keen to re-run the Top gear shoot out with the cerbera, I hope Jeremyc will oblige with his 420bhp model. Should be a good day out, I'm very much looking forward to it.
As you are a PHer, I'll add your details to the above "evolving summary of PHer attendance at the event". Maurice told me a 993ttS would be attending, I assume he was referring to yourself, or is another 993ttS going to be there?
cheers
DAZ
I have received confirmation that Bluesatin will definitely be attending in one of his vehicles, hopefully the Ultima, no offence to the Z3M (with top speed limiter?)
Queries have been raised off board about stone chips. These will be avoided when doing the top speed runs as only two cars can be on the 2 mile runway at any one time. The two vehicles being on different sides of the runway to allow speed readings to be taken by the radar equipment on either side at the end . To avoid Stone chips after the max speed runs, care should be taken to avoid tailgating on the outer sections if/when we do laps later in the day. Although I would hope we would adjust the number of laps and group drivers of similar speed so as to avoid this issue. You should however be mindful of this issue and drive accordingly.

Would love to bring the Noble along to compare with all you porkers but I'll be on a plane half way around the world then.
I'm at the TMS TVR day though where we get access to the straight, so I might see a few of you there.
Have fun, and get some piccies/video!
Hi Joust.
I have a camcorder and a windscreen suction mount so we will certainly be doing some videoing (some of the essential tools of being a Nurburg Ring junkie). However my techy skills ie transfer to PC type format and hosting on the internet is my weakest link.
cheers
DAZ
Darren
Yes, I think I'm the only Turbo S going, with a bit of luck I should have the wheels balanced by then ( seems to have a slight judder @ 140 )
If its not balance, has anybody got any idea what else to look at ?
Paul
Joust, thats great of you. I'll lend my camera and mount around so we can get runs from each of the pistonheader vehicles if that's OK with yourself and the drivers.
Any chance of puting them all onto CD for me as I don't have broadband down here in Bumpkinville. I will then arrange copying the CD for the attendees.
cheers
DAZ
Paul I get the imprssion the track is not a smooth as one or two of the autobahns I've barnstormed down, so I wouldn't worry too much.
Obviously balancing and tyre pressures would be a good start. Alternatively you may have a problem with with areas such as tyre walls or suspension and geometry.
Anyone else had a judder at 140ish in a 993, what was the solution? Any technicians/mechanics care to list an order of attack to identify the problem?
DAZ
my Griffith used to feel like it was going to take off at about 110, get above that and it was fine until you got to about 140 when a rudder would have been about as much use as the steering wheel
Excellent news Joust
Craig, I have just received an email from Maurice. He has reached 30 cars and so is going to bank the cheques this week. He has a meeting with the management of Bruntingthorpe next week to set out our needs for the day.
A list of vehicles will be forthcoming.
DAZ
PS - Of the Bruntingthorpe atendees, who is also attending VW this sunday? It would be good to meet and put faces to names before our relaxing pootle through the leicestershire countryside.
Hi guys me again.
I'm away from early tuesday till late friday. I have just sent an email to Maurice asking for details of arrival times etc. I have also asked bluesatin and jeremyc to keep this thread upto date so that non drivers such as Rich36 and Iguana can also be kept informed.
DAZ
Guys...I realise the big day is next weekend.I would love to come & spectate and would obviously be more than happy to help with any marshalling or other duties...are there any places for non drivers??
CLUBSPORT
Maurice has already agreed to a couple of people on this board attending as spectator/co-pilots/flagwavers so come along. Accordingly I see no problem in a further Porsche owning PHer attending, but can you please email you full name and car reg number so I can pass your details to Maurice for forwarding to security for entrance to the site.
DAZ
>> Edited by dazren (moderator) on Sunday 9th February 19:22
Are you guys going to raise or lower your tyre pressures for the high speed runs??
Assume higher pressures, therefore less rolling resistance = higher speed?
Melv
Has everybody got insurance, or are some going to run without?. I've had a word with Egger Lawson and its going to cost £550 to insure for the day! (cheap if I crash, expensive if I dont)
Paul
I'm not going to take out any special insurance.
The only "danger" I can see is a blow out but they're exceptionally rare and even then there's sooo much room to lose it safely.
Bare in mind these cars and tyres are made for exactly this purpose and in some countries people are doing it ever day.... the lucky bast**ds
More news on logistics:
Please arrive around 9:30 - 9:45. We will meet in the hospitality suite, talk about the day, sign disclaimers and have a slow lap in convoy so everyone has a good feel for speed trap location, speed to take corner before straight, braking distance etc.
Please remember, this is a group of individuals conspiring to hire the facilities for the day. There is no organizing body.
Might be worth packing a helmet if you have one – if we get plenty of speed runs in we might like to revert to the short circuit for a different experience.
Will have caterers there for coffee and snacks, too.

Are spectators aloud?
Guess we're too late to bring the Boxster. I mentioned this to Emm while we were away over the weekend and she was "well up for it"
GregE240,
I think if you e-mail Maurice and ask nicely
then you may well be allowed to come and spectate.
I did, and "the man from Del Monte, he say YES!"
Hope to see you there.
If anybody coming wants to borrow a handheld GPS e-mail me as I have one spare. Jeremyc which route are you going and do you want to meet on the way and Domster are you comming.
Good questions all.
1. I'll probably join the M1 at the North Circular and go from there: happy to meet you en route if there is a convenient intersection of our paths.
2. Domster is presumably going to consider the cost of the lost sex'n'drugs revenue if the drug/pimp mobile is parked up in the Leicestershire countryside all day.
But
Captain pimp rasta car man will be close to the ultima factory which i intend to visit as well during the day. With that car he should be able to crack a deal for some high quality american speed engine parts
LOL, I would love to come along, but I have to look after the wifelet - she is having her wiz teeth wizzed out on Friday. And that's just the kind of caring 90's rastamobile driving guy I am
Have a good time guys, and tell me all about it on monday.
Greg
Email Maurice via his profile as suggested by Pete. As a matter of fact I´ve just sent him an email myself concerning a colleague from the north who will be attending as a spectator/flagwaver/co-pilot.
See everyone on saturday.
DAZ
PS - Out of the country, lasted 40 hours before saying fcuk it I´ve gotr to find a cyber cafe.
If any one wants to join me, i'll be heading from reading to henley, up to wallingford then oxford, up the M40 to banbury, then on the A361 (yeehar!) across to daventry and the m1 at junction 18.
I live in Reading and went to Uni in Leicester, i know all the best roads....

VS,,i am coming from kent/se london, which is opposite the M1 start on the m25...nightmare...i will look at the map tonight to see if it makes more sense for me to go M40...wot time are you heading off?
errr, early...
I guess to be there for 9am with that route, i'd have to leave Reading at about 7ish.
If you are coming from "direction Brands Hatch, oui?" then you could always come round the southern bit, down the M4 and i could meet you somewhere near junction 8/9 at 7am.
Maybe we could convince bluesatin to meet us there too, since it's a much nicer drive than the M1.
thats fine in terms of time,I will just have to check the route out tonight & will let you know tomorrow...are you running your car/ or mere spectator like myself?
Spectatatating.
I know what my car will do top end (i was on the Cannonball Run last October) so i've no interest in that side of it, i'm mainly going for the pictures i can take and the noises i will hear.
And of course the drive there and back...
same sentiments...this was the catalyst to pick up the digital camera i have been telling myself i needed for the last few months,so i will also be snapping away....
I'm sure they'll be passenger rides going clubsport, verysideways and GregE240 - if only to have someone to scream when we reach the required braking point at the end of the runway.
>> Edited by jeremyc on Wednesday 12th February 16:48
Verysideways.....i checked the map & by the look of things & having spoken to friends who know the journey..it makes more sense for me to go anti-clockwise around M25....So I will have to pass on meeting you for the jorney up to Bruntingthorpe.
I look fwd to catching up with you & your 4S later in the day...cheers
If anyone else is going from berks/bucks/hants area, bluesatin and i are meeting just before 7am on saturday morning.
Near junction 8/9 of the M4 (Maidenhead), at the roundabout of the A404 and A4 intersection.
Best to let me know cos if i don't hear from anyone then as soon as i hook up with bluesatin we'll head off.
Can't wait!!!!

I've just got in from spain and have received Maurice's email from early this evening. I together with everyone on this thread hopes his wife will be OK.
It is now midnight and I have received no further email from Maurice.
As I understand matters Maurice has by now already paid Bruntingthorpe for the day. He has also held a meeting with the management of Bruntingthorpe outlining what we wish to do. Accordingly I will be attending as planned and hoping Maurice will do also on the basis his wife is not seriously hurt.

Edited to say I will be leaving home at 6.45am. I will be rechecking my email at about 6.30am.

Starting from an initiative for the GB 993 Register, I have arranged a 'Runway Blast' at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, the former air base south of Leicester, for Feb 15th. One of the longest runways in Europe, you can get top speed or bloody close!
Not an official club event, you understand, just a group of enthusiasts clubbing together to hire the facility for the day. As the owners are old friends, a good rate has been obtained, but we need around 30 cars to make it viable, ie keep the cost around £100 each. We have another week or so to confirm the hire.
Format is two cars down the runway together into top speed traps either side - for once you'll want your speed measured by a professional! So far we have 993 Turbo S, 944 Turbo, 964RS vying for VMAX honours. And we can look at a Vulcan V-Bomber being restored to flying condition between runs! Or go to the pub for lunch. The perimeter track is quite decent fun, too, but we can't run it like a track day, because of the limit of two on the runway.
Any interested parties please contact me on private email [email removed] for further details.
Cheers, Maurice
