put the oem 3rd brake light back in and recheck.....some cars use the 3rd brake light as a signal for a few things and po car arent tolerant of different wattage bulbs

My cruise control indicator light still comes on but my cruise control suddenly stopped engaging. The fuse is the same fuse for the brake lights (at least that is what my fuse diagram says) and the brake lights are working. My car is a '99 Boxster and the only change I've made before the CC stopped working was to replace the third brake light with an after market smoked one and it is also working fine. Is this in the stalk? Any ideas?

It could be your clutch (not depressed) switch or brake pedal switch. If the cruise control "thinks" that either pedal is pressed, it will not engage.
