Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

The repair may not look perfect, but will probably be imperceptible to anyone but yourself, and will likely be better than painting the entire bonnet (feeling a bit British this evening).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

While detailing my (formerly perfect) '02 C4 Cab this morning, I opened the front hood while the windshield wipers were up. During their violent trip back to the windshield, each of the wipers managed to scape a couple inches of paint from the edge of the hood and somehow put three large (and obvious) holes on the top. Right down to the metal. Huge bonehead move.

POST 2Original post

I feel your pain! I hate it when I do things like that 'cause I don't even get to blame them on anyone else! Talk to your Porsche dealer to see if there's any detail/refurbish guys around that they use and/or and trust. The repair may not look perfect, but will probably be imperceptible to anyone but yourself, and will likely be better than painting the entire bonnet (feeling a bit British this evening). Seriously, some of these guys can do amazing things these days. Good luck, -DT

POST 3Original post

Dirk is right -- they can do amazing things. A chunk of concrete fell off a truck, bounced off the road and hit my hood. No dents, but a couple of huge scratches. I did not want to go the body shop approach which was to repaint the whole hood. We built it up with the standard Porsche touch up paint, and let it cure for a couple of days. Then the detail guy hit it with wet sanding, followed by a high speed buffer and it is gone. looks great. Good luck!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm feeling better already.

POST 6Original post

Doesn't that suck!! I did this with my 944 Cab I once owned. One bit of good news, you most likely will never do it again.
