Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have a rather complicated situation and there is no better place for input than this board. i have a CPO C63 MB which serves as a daily driver so I have driven my 07 Cayman S as a weekend toy since Jan 2011. It is black/sand loaded except for no navigation and the car has stock 18" wheels. The Cayman is stock except for a Borla exhaust and clear corners. i retained the stock exhaust system. 42000 miles and no accidents or dents kept in a carport under a car cover. clear bra. condition 9 out of 10. never tracked. No smoke. very happy with my present setup. So my buddy turns my perfect world upside down. He has a black/black 2010 911S cab with 2500 miles. Well equipped -114,000 sticker. Bad timing-I am not working but have no bills except for 1 car payment for the MB. My friend is selling his house and the real estate people dont want the 911 in the garage so it it is in his warehouse. i can buy the 911 for about 75-79k. 40k in cash and he will take the rest in guns and sports equipment-a big plus for me. Kelley BB is about 33k on my CS and about 77k for the 911-dealers are asking around 86-88 for similar examples with this kind of mileage. i will have to sell the cayman within 3 months. Should I remove the Borla and go back to stock(not legal in NC-OK in SC). How much should I take for the Cayman in a quick sale environment. What is a fair-quick sale price for the 911. My dream car is a turbo convertible but this is a close as I can get at present. Comments appreciated. Sorry for the length of the post

POST 2Original post

To be honest after a year I was totally bored with my 09 C2S cab. I sold it for $60K with 13K miles after 4 years and now waiting for the GT3. You are going through a lot of financial gymnastics to get this car so you better make sure it's really what you want. I would put the stock muffler back on, it's much easier to sell a stock car. I took a beating on my Cayman S in part because of the Techart wheels and springs and I sold the OEMs

POST 3Original post

If I was out of work, I would be selling, not buying, just sayin.

POST 4Original post

Bored after 1 year??? Wow Thats a real buzz killer. I respect your opinion so I will definitely sit down and look at everything in that price range. i would like to sell the Cayman before it turns 50 K and I dont think that it will be a problem. This buy would be a 3rd or 4th car for use as a weekend trip to the beach or go to dinner at night car. i don't have any expectations of track days or any type of racing. A 4.5 second 0-60 car would be fine for this slot. i am out of work permanently due to health issues but all my stuff is paid for so this is just a matter of swapping toys. I am not spending grocery money on this deal. If I still worked I would be in line as well for the GT 3 or a turbo. Many thanks for the input. Very helpful-good info.

My wife has an 08 Boxster S LE (orange). I say this in all seriousness, the 987 Boxster is a lot more fun to drive than the 911 Cab I had. The 3.4L in the 987S is a great motor and w/ the PSE and top down it really sings. The Boxster maybe Porsche's best modern "all around" sports car. FWIW I think an 09 Boxster S w/ PDK and new DFI 3.4L would be the way to go for a weekend toy instead of the 911 Cab. Save some bucks in the process too. I need to get the GT3 "thing" out of my system, but we'll still have her Boxster long after the GT3 is gone.

POST 6Original post

I really appreciate your advice on the 911 cab. i told the seller who is one of my best friends that I was going to step back and think about it for a while. We ran some new numbers and considering my new price on the car and what i am getting for some other toys, the deal is just too good to pass up. I like the 911 cab, but as you stated it may grow old at some point and I can see what you mean. I looked at the Boxsters but ended up taking a liking to the new ones which the dealers are very proud of with their pricing. That would put me into 911 territory. I have had several Boxter loaners and I did not want to bring them back when my Cayman was ready. On another subject I watched a video review clip on the PDK 2014 GT3. Wow what a beast. The link was in with some stuff that I got from Suncoast the other day. With the new front/rear steering setup it looks better for the street and the track. I cant wait for some members to start receiving them. Looks like one of the worlds best cars at present. I just cant justify the extra 80 grand over the 911 s cab at present. My plan is to keep the 911 s for say 2 years and tart looking again. In any case thanks for your well respected input on this subject. Good luck on your GT3

POST 7Original post

Well if you got a better deal in the end then the hesitation was worth it! Money matters, and how we perceive what we get from a car is in part related to how much we pay for the car up front. Part of my problem with my 09 Cab was that it cost twice as much as my wife's Boxster S without delivering that much more enjoyment. Enjoy the new ride.

POST 8Original post

After owning two Boxsters I bought a 997 C2S cab last February. Although it was more powerful than my Boxster S I missed the Boxster as it was a better drive. I tried to learn to love the 911 Cab but I just couldn't relate to it. It didn't handle in the corners and I never had any confidence with it. I sold it less than a year of ownership and I bought my current car, a 997 Turbo. I'm not saying they are bad cars, I'm sure people do like them but I'm saying make sure you spend some time driving it before you make the plunge.

POST 9Original post

If you do remove the Borla and sell you 987. I would buy the Borla from you. Let me know if you take take that route.

POST 10Original post

I picked up the 2010 997 Carerra S cabriolet. So far I love it. I do see the advantages of the Cayman S which I drove for 42500 miles. I know exactly what you guys mean as to the handling capabilities of the Cayman series vs the 911. i also have a low mileage MB C 63 which I drive daily. My cayman was closing in on 50 k and it was time for a change given my vehicle situation. This is my first 911 and my first convertible of any consequence. I love the triple black color scheme, the exhaust note and the appearance of the car. I am not a track guy. My needs have changed with my age (60) and being a 6 speed this will be the last proper stick shift Porsche that I will own. i seriously considered the new Cayman and the new Boxster. The prices scared me off and the dealers here are not dealing on them. I switched my 07 Cayman S back to completely stock and actually sold the car to a dealer. I was very happy with the price I received. i also considered and test drove a 991 S. I did not like it compared to the 997 (just my opinion-no knock on the car). I think that the new platform needs a couple of years to perfect the steering act. I plan on driving the 997 for say 2-3 years, then looking at a GT3 or maybe a turbo cab. For now i will be driving and enjoying the 997. I do have the Borla from the 07 Cayman S. After I take a few minutes to figure out the shipping logistics and to research the price I will put it up for sale. I will get back to you. Thanks to all for the input
