Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

These are the first shots I've taken of my 911 since getting it. The weather has just been miserable and the car has been pretty dirty. At the weekend I managed to give it a 'proper' clean and a couple of coats of wax... I tried a couple of angles to best capture the shine, but it's not easy: I also took it out for a spin and played around with some HDR type shots... 911's always seem to look nicer when the sun is out...

POST 3Original post

Love that second shot, and those wheels look great... :thumb:

POST 4Original post

love the last two pics with the filters. Really brings out the eyes of the car  Seriously looks great. MultiSpoke alloys are a b*gger to keep clean but look really nice.

POST 5Original post

In the words of todays youff... That's sick man!!! Teen dictionary Sick - A word used to describe anothers mans ride. This word is generally used when you can not fink of better words, sick is beyond words.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all! You're not kidding about the wheels being a pain to clean, I had my old toothbrush out at one point, damned narrow spokes! I really like the wheels, but I can't help but think that something darker (like black with polished rims) would suit the car better... Hmm...

POST 9Original post

Looking phat and indeed, disgusting (I think) :dont know: Do I need an SLR camera to do HDR shots? (I also have Seal Grey paint and no amount of slogging away at seems to come out in my pics!) Adrian.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No you don't really need an SLR for HDR, but you do need a camera where you can control the exposure. The process works by taking one 'normal' photo, another photo 1 or 2 stops darker, and another photo 1 or two stops lighter. You then merge them all together to create a HDR image. So, basically, if you can control the exposure you can do it. Some cameras do this automatically (a feature called 'bracketing', or AEB). Try googling for your camera make and model + AEB and see what results you get. For best results you really need a tripod (as all three images need to line up), but I shot the above 'from the hip' as it was quite a bright day (so the exposures were quick) and I was just 'experimenting'. I also want to try the same technique at night, but for that I'll definitely need a tripod. If you want any more info, just ask!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh and if you want to better see the results of your cleaning/waxing then the key is in the reflections. I struggled with the first two photos because it was a pretty dull grey day (ideal for waxing as it was dry but not hot). If you've got a nice bright sky, with some detail in it (clouds) then you should be able to pick that up reflecting in your car, which will improve the impact. Funnily enough the grey sky didn't show up much on the grey paint in my first two photos.

POST 12Original post

Thanks very much for that. I have a Lumix TZ7 which is only a compact - albeit quite a nice one - and I don't think that it'll run to this. I also wanted to do one of those dark night time shots where you can see the trail of car tail lights but I understand that you need quite long exposure times and a tripod to do this?

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've looked, and the Lumix TZ7 has no manual controls unfortunately. It's rated as a very nice point and shoot, but doesn't offer the flexibility you need. For the light trails (or any decent night time photo) you'll need the ability to take a long exposure (say 2 seconds or more), and you'll also need some form of tripod (to get a shake free image) - or just somewhere to put the camera (on a wall for example). You don't need an SLR (I've got a compact which you can have quite a bit of control over), but it is *easier* with an SLR... By easier, I mean they're more flexible - but they're certainly also more complicated as a result!

POST 14Original post

Black with polished rims :chin: There's an idea TB

POST 15Original post

I take your point! This was done with an old Cannon Ixus 500 but the weather seemed to help (a bit!) You can just about see the vapour trails!
