They used a durametrics and reset the reminder, although there were two oddities.

I've used both the previous versions and the new 6.x.x.x versions of Durametric with no avail.

Dropping in without an appointment, or needing to have your car there a prolonged repair would be two examples that come to mind.

But for the dealership I bought my car from to send out a flyer for a free inspection and loaner while they do the work to: a) give me a pretty beat up car for the afternoon and b) offer to reset the service reminder for the bargain fee of $60 - all I can say is that they did not make a good enough first impression to gain my service business.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Why not take your Cayman in for Service?
I bought the Durametrics cable and software last year when I got tired of looking at the service message. I did most of the 20K and 40K service myself and didn't want to pay the dealer $60 for resetting the message. Also, a friend of mine has my old
Boxster S
so we both use the software (the package I bought allows use with 3 vehicles). In all I think it was well worth it.
I had the same issue....service due in xx days...
So I called the dealer (Stevens Creek

How much did they charge you to take care of that? I was already at the dealer for their "free" 27-point inspection and they wanted $60 to reset the service reminder. Not a good way to make a good first impression on my first visit to their service department.
And the loaner they gave me! A beat up Hyundai with a big brown stain on the back seat (since it was in near DC, I can only assume blood). I was not impressed at all by the service department.
Under certain circumstances, I would be very understanding about a dealership not giving a loaner. Dropping in without an appointment, or needing to have your car there a prolonged repair would be two examples that come to mind. Very few domestic car dealerships offer loaners - the ones that do are worried about customer service and getting your business in a competitive market.
There are 3 other dealerships within the same 60 mile radius; why would I go back there?
I'm not trying to sound ungrateful, just making an observation of not-so-good customer service practices.
My car (2007) has 16K miles on it, and I had minor service done at AutoSport Engineering in Stow, MA in may. It just started saying "service in 30 days", counting down, and now says "service now". I think my car was built in summer of 2006 and was at the dealer a long time. I called autosport and they just to come in and they'd reset it, but they also said that you can't reset it before it comes on. This seems odd; I would think the procedure would be to reset at service time, and that would give you another 20K miles and 24 months.
I just got back from autosport. They don't have the "P-whiz", which costs $24K and $1k/month maintenance, and apparently that's what the dealers all have. They used a durametrics and reset the reminder, although there were two oddities. One was the durametrics software said "service now" was indicative of a fault code, and "maintenance due" meant time expired. But there were no fault codes, and they just did the service reminder reset. This also reset the mpg and speed items in the trip computer and the clock, but not the trip odometer or apparently other custom settings (clock still 24h). No charge (I had "minor maintenance" done there in May), and I got to look over the assorted old

eskaman,
Where is the plug-in port for the Durametric reader located. I wanted to find out first before I buy one. Thanks for your help!
Take care and GOD Bless!
Durametric uses USB on a laptop and plugs into the OBD port under the dash

I think there's actually a bigger question that really pisses me off! Why did
Porsche
make this damned thing so that only a computer via the OBD port can cancel this useless warning ? and this warning is USELESS! It comes on without regard for any real faults. The answer is simple, to drive business to the dealers even when there is no issue. All of the other makes I've dealt with lately that have this type of thing can cancel it via some combination of key on/off and/or control actions. This is just ridiculous :soapbox:
Wake up ! Cut it out!
while durametric seems to be the cheapest alternative to the official
porsche
diagnostics tool, it is by no means without flaws. since everyone that posted here seems to be on the wagon, I figure i'd just give a heads up to anyone that is considering making the purchase.
i have the durametric software/cable using their latest software on my
2006 Cayman S
. These are some problems I've found with it:
- it couldn't reset a CEL that a 50 dollar OBDII scanner was able to do in 5 seconds.
- it doesn't show certain OBDII emissions data, like long and short term fuel trim. If it does, it's not showing up in % as it should.
- certain combination of data logging options will turn off the car, even while the engine is running
- i've noted on several occasions that the fault codes have wrong descriptions
- during live data logging, the software will often crash, which then requires you to re-do your test.
- extended data logging seem to always crash, suggesting maybe some memory leak is happening with the software.
Are you using the 6.0 software? Have you provided feedback to Durametric regarding your specific issues?
I had some issues with their most recent release (6.0.3.1), which required rolling back to an earlier version (at their suggestion). I have found that they are pretty receptive to constructive criticism or feedback on problems/software glitches that you discover. It helps to send them a work log if you are having a recurrent issue with the software. At least it seems they are constantly updating their software to address bug issues.
Yes. I gave up after several unsuccessful communications with them.
- With regards to not resetting CELs, Durametric says it's my aftermarket ECU/tune that makes it so that I couldn't reset my CEL. (even though I said a 50 dollar OBDII scanner was able to do it)
- As far as short/long term fuel trim, I was told that whatever is there is what they get from the ECU, no more no less. Yet I'm able to get long and short term fuel trim using other OBDII scanners. I went through each data logging option and wasn't able to find a single option that gave me the % fuel trim numbers I was able to see with other tools. Neither was Durametric able to show me which option to use to get the data I needed.
- Again, my ECU/tune was blamed for my car turning off when selecting more than one live data acquisition options. No attempts to troubleshoot whatsoever.
- I didn't bother reporting the software crashing since I don't care at this point to use the software for more than clearing service indicators. I was using it at one point to do data logging for ignition timing... but I haven't done that in a while.
I've used both the previous versions and the new 6.x.x.x versions of Durametric with no avail. Although the older version seems to be more stable, it lacks many of the options with the new version.
My biggest problem with it is consistency and lacking basic emissions data. Sometimes I can reset the CEL, sometimes I can't. In my opinion, it should at least come with the basic data sets that's available through the OBDII port.
Has anyone managed to reset their service now due message using one of these ?

At $135 that's less than half the price of the cheapest Durametric option.
