Generally I tend to prefer to run rather softer than the factory recommendations (and always have done on all my 911s) So for the 996 i use around 32 front 38 rear.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What tyre presures are you guys running....? According to the owners manual for 18" tyres it states 3.0 bar (44 psi) I'm running 235/40/18 on the front and 285/30/18 on the rear, all P-Zero Rosso's.

POST 2Original post

I was told 36psi so would also like to know this as i have just had all my boots changed to the same tyre and thought that might of been low.

POST 3Original post

36psi front & 44 rear, not recommended to go more than 15% from these as it compromises the side walls but some like the softer ride. TB

POST 4Original post

Generally I tend to prefer to run rather softer than the factory recommendations (and always have done on all my 911s) So for the 996 i use around 32 front 38 rear. It just improves the everyday ride comfort so much particularly with the current pot hole epidemic. I also notice no deterioration in grip at everyday speeds and stragely more even (accross the tread) tyre wear.. (If heading up the motorway or to a track day then I put them back to standard)

POST 5Original post

Bear in mind that the 36/44 recommendation from Porsche is at 20 deg C. Something I have found since fitting a TPMS is that if you set them at 36/44 with the ambient temperature at around 10C then they can go up 2-3 psi when air in the tyre reaches 20C.

POST 6Original post

+1 on that. I have done a theoretical model and since the TPMS I have been looking at actual readings and soon I will be posting a report and comparison. but if temp is low then you need to remove 2-3 PSI from the target one as said above Theo

POST 7Original post

+1 I like my car so much better with 32/38... the ride comfort is much improved, but more importantly the car is more stable over bumps and feels much better at the front as a result.

POST 8Original post

One thing I have learned from tracking 5 different types of tyres over the last couple of years is that there is no one "correct" pressure. What I do now is use the optimum hot track pressure (determined by tyre pyrometer readings) as my cold road pressure. For most tyres this works out as 30-33F and 33-36R at 20 degrees. The differential between front & rear seems to be fairly consistent at 3psi. PS/2's and Toyo R888's seem to like a little more pressure than Cup's and Corsa's.

POST 9Original post

I run 32psi front (225/40/18 ) and 40psi rear (285/30/18 ). I've done this for a more compliant ride; using the manufacturers guide (36/44) just results in a rock hard ride for me. ~ Maxie

POST 10Original post

I popped out to get a sarnie, checked my tyre pressure whilst I was out after reading this since the temp is up a bit today. Adjusted it fine.. ..jumped back in the car and the radio/cd has stopped working!! Sat Nav still talks to me and it thinks it's playing. But no music. So - be careful when you adjust your tyre pressure! I assume it's just a fuse. I'll check the fusebox diagram after I've finished said sarnie.

POST 11Original post

Of course the tyres will also have an effect on the comfort, so different makes/compounds would suit different pressures. I ran lower pressures [3psi] when I first had the car but went back to the recommended once I got used to the handling. The geometry set up will make a really noticable difference to the way the car responds. TB

POST 12Original post

Ahh, but at what temperature are you setting them? It you are setting them at, say, 10C then they could end up at around 36/44 by the time you have done about 5-6 miles of normal motoring.
