Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

OPC probably would have used a Toyota key to fix the issue and then charged you for a new lock and two sets of keys

So tried Google and got on to Rennlist forum where somebody had been as dumb as me (even using a Toyota key!).

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • PistonHeads: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thought I would take advantage of the sunny weather here in Portugal and take the Spyder out for a blast. Then disaster struck! I put the key from my Toyota Rav4 into the ignition as I had both in the same pocket. Key went in fine so removed it and tried to insert the Porsche key. Key would only go in about 1/4 inch then was blocked. Feared the worst and envisaged nice big bill from OPC to recover the car and fit a new ignbition lock. So tried Google and got on to Rennlist forum where somebody had been as dumb as me (even using a Toyota key!). Amongst the usual "you need a new lock" responses was someone who suggested reinserting the Toyota key and turning the lock full to the left. It worked! the Toyota key came out and the Porsche key now works. So if you are as dumb as me and do the same it appears any key will fit the ignition lock and turn the barrel but obviously will not start the car. If you turn the barrel clockwise it activates the locking bolts to ensure real key cannot be removed, but as I used the wrong key it could be extracted and leave the barrel "locked". I realise only an idiot would do what I did but thought I would post as the symptoms look scary but the solution is simple. Just wonder what the OPC would have done if I had called them out!
