Anyway, checked eBay, couldn't find Japanese product this time, but here's a 2-DIN faceplate from Germany.

Suggestion

i guess I am an anachronism, but I just don't fancy the GUI-based double-DIN set ups like the AVIC D3, and I would like to explore the McIntosh mx406 with a basic two-channel amp.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I ordered my C with the base stereo with the intent to put the cost of sound plus to better use. At this point, I think I will be going with the Dynaudio 362 and calling it done for speakers. i guess I am an anachronism, but I just don't fancy the GUI-based double-DIN set ups like the AVIC D3, and I would like to explore the McIntosh mx406 with a basic two-channel amp. However, it appears that the double-DIN trim kit from Japan is the only one available. I am left with custom fabrication or nothing, and has anyone here swapped out for a single-DIN unit yet? Anything to beware of in such a case?

POST 2Original post

scintilla the dash can be fabricated anyway you want to look perfect e-mail me if you want more info

POST 3Original post

scintilla, you can use the ebay bezel and just add in a single DIN pocket under/over the radio This is what I will be doing this to my 05 BX after I first fabricate the bezel

POST 4Original post

does anyone kno if a single din head unit with a flip out screen would work? just concerned the screen might hit the dash since it sticks out a bit above the head unit...

POST 5Original post

if go single din you could always place ths HU in the bottom din and have the pocket up top

POST 6Original post

Single DIN HU I want to do the same thing in my '05 Boxster. Already have an Alpine 9887 HU. Seems to me that it might be even cheaper than the Japan double DIN unit to have a single DIN or single with pocket fabricated. They're charging close to $500 the way I remember. This is my first post, so can't email anyone yet, but would be happy to get msg from anyone who can accomplish the above. Also, how much trouble is the MOST system to deal with? I'd like to replace the speakers (I have the non-Bose upgrade version). I've been given to understand that running new speaker wire is prob. not a good idea. I have a new Alpine 4 channel amp to go in as well. So glad to see this thread..... have been looking for help with this since March.

POST 7Original post

This custom job looks solid...any ideas what he used?

POST 8Original post

I think that if I went this route I'd want the pocket in the extra DIN slot rather than a bare plate....car has little enough storage as it is. Anyway, checked eBay, couldn't find Japanese product this time, but here's a 2-DIN faceplate from Germany. What's more, it's $150, and they say they make one for each customer? Seems like they could make a single DIN just as easily. I'll try and contact them. eBay Motors: Double Din 2Din / CarPC Bezel for Porsche Cayenne (item 200225085187 end time Aug-16-08 10:16:50 PDT)

POST 9Original post

To me the car in Mod mag cheaped out. The doubledin version of that unit has all the bells and whistles and looks better in the dash.
