Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Yes, I can see that they changed from the more classic look, but that just makes them different, not worse.
Leading evidence: 'Replace from the more classic look' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace from the more classic look' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hi all, does any body know where i can get some head light cover for a early 996 model? i have seen loads of different one but only like these ones!
any help would be great!
thanks
peter
Dude... don't. Please. I know a lot of things boil down to taste and personal preferance, but if you stick that cheap plastic on your car then you're
really
going to detract from the whole look.
I really don't get the hatrid of the 996 lights. Yes, I can see that they changed from the more classic look, but that just makes them different, not worse. I'm perfectly happy with the ones on my facelifted model, and wouldn't consider changing them. (If I had a set of the fried eggs, I would swap them out for clear lenses though, as the orange look is a little dated IMO).
Just don't put that plastic cr*p on your car, it'll really cheapen it.
Anyone know how to ,or if you can easily remove the orange relectors frpm the front clrear lens lights and just rely on silvered orange bulbs. Although the clear lenses are better on the front there is still a good deal of orange visible
You'll be wanting an "amberectomy" then!

NB: in reality you will need white LEDs (amber flashing) as the silvered bulbs are too dim. This is a whole other kettle of fish re: parallel resistors to modulate the flash rate.
The problem is the coating is designed to let light out the "top" of the bulb (because they normally point directly out of general lamp clusters), but they are installed pointing upwards in a 996 :?
Unfortunately the silver coating is just too thick on the sides of the bulb and hence too dim.
Here are some I made earlier:
This is the underside of the lamp assembly, you can see the bulb access/screw in pointing "upwards" (well down in the photo!).
I mounted the ceramic resistor (white) in a metal cage and hot glued it in place on some heat reflective tape. This way the resistor won't get too hot and melt something.
NB: when I trial fitted the first lamp in this configuration I found the "cage" caught on the headlamp locking "table" in the front wings. I forgot to take pictures of the revision, but I just moved the resistor, cage and silvered backing to the diagonal step-in (immediately to the left of the position pictured). Then it was completely clear of everything.
