The benzs also have good traction control which will let you take it to the limit but most likely the superb handling is from technology and not like old school manual skill and labor

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had an eventfull weekend--I traded my 2000 BMW 740i Sport, sold my 2002 Carrera, and bought a 2003 E55 AMG. I sold my Carrera to a local Porsche dealer Sunday, and they sold it Monday!
This E55 is what would happen if the BMW 740i Sport & the Carrera had a baby--and then fed it lots of steriods:
479 hp, 516 lb ft of torque, 0 -60 in 4.5 secs. Adjustable air suspension, and in sport mode 2, handles very close to the Carrera--the steering is not quite as direct as the Carrera, but since I've never tracked my cars, I'll never know the difference. There is no body roll (at least that I can feel), yet it's a very refined ride.
I've owned 3 Porsches since 1989, and it was a tough decision, but this car is unbelievable. It has more power than any car I've ever driven in, and it has 4 doors, so my kids are happy too!!!I Although there'll always be a special place in my heart for the shape of the Carrera, this car is beautiful, muscular, and aggressive looking. The interior is drop dead georgious, very refined and hi tech, and not one squeak or rattle. And the exhaust is wonderful--not as loud as PSE, but very pronounced and refined.
I got the second one delivered by the dealer:
pewter silver
charcoal leather
heated/ventilated front seats (90 degrees here today, and no legs sticking to the seats)
bi-xenons
keyless go
drive dynamic seats (side bolsters adjust to offset cornering forces, and lumbar massage (like United first class )
panorama roof w/ solar panel (which ventilates the car when parked, using the solar cells)
integrated Motorola V60i phone
and a bunch of other goodies
I've enjoyed the community on this and those "other" p-car boards, and will still be around, but not as actively as before (anyone know any good AMG boards?). And sometime in the future, I get another Porsche--maby a 997. As Arnold said, I'll be back !!

TRAITOR!
Seriously, great looking car. You'll love whipping up on unsuspecting street racers every now and then to get your jollies. Hopefully you will slide back to a 911 somewhere down the road.
<img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
The E55 AMG is an awesome machine. It can do just about anything an exotic car can do. It certainly shame my little 993 C4S. However, it cannot handle close to your C2. On the street, it may feel the same, but it isn't.
Yeah Poursha, I looked at one of those. I liked the color, but oh those yellow side markers. Can you get rid of them on the Benz?
Seriously, congrats on your choice of color and car.
BTW, John D. is going to charge you for the second photo gallery 'cause it doesn't have any Pcars in it!
(just kidding)
Poursha, that is one nice car. I tell ya, when the funds permit I'd suggest looking for a nice set of 20s (HREs or Kinesis maybe...). Other than that, I love the color and the stance, looks mean as hell. All that, plus you have comfort and mid 12-second 1/4 mile times and can haul the family around in.
IMO and i've Tried it
acctually i tried the '03 SL55 i had it for a day (from my friend) and honestly its a very powerfull machine you smoke anycar on the street but the diffrence between it and the Carrera is it is tooooooo huge compared and it can never handle or be driven the way porsche is driven. porsche is small and stuck on the road the 55's keeps skating on the road all the time burnning. and one more thing .... PORSCHE you can feel its solid sport car in a mercedes you are driving a powerfull luxury car with some classical sport touches.
BUT, if i had the chance to trade my C4 with one i will !!
congratulations Poursha, its a really nice car.
A beautiful car. here is your new forum --

Give us an update after a week or two of driving!
Pourscha,
If your reasons for getting this car is to combine into one with some sacrifice of the weekend fun car race car then by all means you will enjoy.
You will enjoy the straightline speed of this car, as I have driven my father's SL55 and it is super fast and picks up like a roller coaster ride. However, if you had a manual transmission porsche, the automatic will never be able to compete. The benzs also have good traction control which will let you take it to the limit but most likely the superb handling is from technology and not like old school manual skill and labor
These things are so fast that you can't even punch it without hitting 60mph as it quickly upshifts and still continues the momentum even after you let off the gas. I had to take it on the freeway before I could safely feel the power. The porsche you can run it up the rpms briefly and throw it into neutral.
Where did you get this car? I was considering getting one on lease as we need another family car but wasn't aware it is out now. Benz gave me a $1000 coupon good for this year.
I wont forget a rennlister's sig going smthg like: 'a normal driver looks for power while a real driver looks for more performance'
And arnold is really coming back with a new terminator btw!
Waz
Congratsh, no doubt it's a nice E55 BUT please don't terminate your future dreams when Porsche is back with 997...
btw if i sell my 996 my children will disown me but i bet my wife will love me more
good luck <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
ruey220,
If you want an E55, my dealer, Kamal, at Smythe European in San Jose keeps calling me trying to get me to buy one that was delivered and the buyer backed out.
I thought about it, but I have a friend who has a 2000 E55 and a 2000 Carrera. He loves the power of the E55, but he will never give up the Porsche. He loves the way he can throw the Porsche around and it gets a lot more looks.
Also, I can't bring myself to spend $98k on the E55 when it doesn't even have GPS for this model year. (My wife and I are trying to have a baby, so maybe I'll be ready for one in a couple years.)
Like anything in life, it is just a matter of personal preference. I congratulate Poursha on his new ride. That is a lot of horsepower and I'm sure it will be great to drive down I280.
Have fun.
P.S. Poursha, I was going to post the link to the 'funcarsonline' AMG site, but I see you already found it.
Poursha, your E55 is nice. MBZ makes a good case for not needing a Carrera. Today's 'super sedans' are so good, that cars like 996 are becoming irrelevant. I wouldn't mix it up with an SL55--or E55--on any open stretch of highway, lest I come away with more than a bruised ego. Me thinks the performance of the new GT3 should be standard for a basic Carrera, o'wise we'll all be driving cars like the E55 sooner rather than later.
Pourscha,
yah E55 is good... awesome car... what impresses me about the Carrera is its handling and cat-like reflexes...
it's true what fahren affair says... sedans today are getting real good... look at A4V8 and new S60R... these are pretty sophisticated daily drivers...
nowhere in the league of E55.. but you get my drift.
cheers
Pete

Mercedes AMG are fast straight ahead but, heavy weight, the SLUSH BOX, and numb steering make me not want one. I have owned a couple as well as the 1999-2001 E55 and I hated driving it. Mercedes has been trying to produce a BMW since I don't know when but, they never hit the mark. I saw a couple of comparisons of the E55, RS6 and E39 M5 where the M5 beat the E55 and won the comparison. Simply put they did not like the E55's handling and numb steering. I believe one mag was EVO and the other was a US mag. But anyway just my opinion, enjoy you car.
The current horsepower race is the biggest ever, more than the '60s. Enjoy it while it lasts, sort of an artifact of the late economic boom. I actually read "lack of power" as a plus/minus of the 310hp Touareg in another thread recently!
That is, enjoy it unless you absolutely gotta have the fastest car, in which case you are going to be getting pangs of envy pretty much every year for a while yet--or be buying a lot of cars.
Personally, I am pretty psyched about all of these very fast station wagons such as the S6/S4, Cayenne/Touareg, WRX hatch, etc. I grew up with a Country Squire that had a 429SCJ in it, love these kind of sleepers.

She's been bugging me to get her a 7 series, but I can't stand the one control in the center console for everything.
What the E55 is going for $98K???? I was told it should only be around 80k. What is going on? I tried searching for the car last week on Edmunds.com but they don't list it yet. Last time I paid $20k for the birth of my son my wife had too much epidural or those pain killers and it was too expensive. I'll hold off until after the birth until I get the car so I can use the coupon.
