Being an old-school air-cooled P-car guy, I really miss oil temp and pressure in my new (to me) 2009
Cayman S
.
The
987.2
cars use the Siemens
ECU
which apparently supplies real CAN messages.
In reading AiM's information, it appears that coolant temp, oil temp and oil pressure channels are all available:
Code:
ECU_9 SM_ECT Engine coolant temperature
ECU_10 SM_OIL_T Oil temperature
ECU_11 SM_OIL_P Oil pressure
However, I've read that a proper oil pressure sender isn't installed on our cars -- just a low pressure switch. Can someone confirm that this is correct?
By the way, the AiM data is here:

Thanks,
John
I believe you need to install a
911
dual sender ( and a gauge for good luck ) and run a wire to the
ECU
for oil pressure. Oil temperature comes from the existing oil level/temp sensor.
Thanks Rob.
Do you mean a pressure sender that has a regular variable pressure output as well as a low pressure warning output?
Any ideas on where/how to connect the variable output to the
ECU
?
John, he is referring to part number
996-606-203-02. It has two terminal spades instead of the one on our current oil pressure sender. The "extra" one would connect to a gage.
Oil pressure is available in
987.2
via
CAN bus
and AiM Solo DL. Here are some data traces.
Thank you very much, sir! That confirms what I was hoping. It would appear that the
987.2
's (at least the S and R) have a real oil pressure sender and not just a switch.
It looks like the AIM information confirms that.

I'm not planning on tracking the car so an AIM system is probably overkill. I bought a couple of OBDII/CAN bluetooth readers and we'll see whether I can get oil temp/pressure on my phone before I go further.
Would be great to get this info into the multi instrument. But sense nobody ever tried this?
Can you get the AIM Solo DL with
CAN bus
to show real time oil pressure and temp? Or only on a tracing when you download the data?
Did this ever work for you?
Aim canbus data definitely shows real time oil pressure and temp. I've used it for over a year now in my
Cayman
.

Thanks for the response! Is it an easy
plug
and play or is it hardwired?
It is hard wired. Tapped into the 2 canbus wires.

An old thread but...
Do you know the CAN PID for the oil pressure message, and how the data is formatted?
And whether its the same on a
987.1
?
Jon.
