I've had problems in the past and eventually found my local ATS gets it right every time using a 5 stud mount for the wheel instead of the usual centre mount.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone Any ideas where I should go to get my wheels professionally balanced? I'm not convinced ATS or Kwikfit will do it correctly and I've got a bit of wheel vibration at the moment so could do with all 4 being done. Midlands (east ideally - silverstone maybe?)

POST 2Original post

I won't think or expect there to be any difference as the equipment is the same.

POST 3Original post

Agreed A lot is down to the operator. Some are good, some are crap. There's no real way of telling in advance. It's really just a question of getting it done and then taking it back and yelling at them until they finally get it right.

POST 4Original post

I've had problems in the past and eventually found my local ATS gets it right every time using a 5 stud mount for the wheel instead of the usual centre mount. First time we did it there was about 60g difference on a wheel only balanced 3 hours earlier elsewhere!

POST 5Original post

I think the issue is with the degree of accuracy on these machines, some companies balance to within 5g others 1g. With 5g resolution on these machines you'll still get feed back through the wheel. I have the same prob with my local garage. :dont know:

POST 6Original post

I take mine to small a back street garage. First found them when I had my elise and discovered that the owner took pride in balancing them properly first time. Lets me stand next to him and shows me what's what on when he has the wheels on the machine... Spot on each time. I would try and find similar if I were you.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm thinking I might go to Zentrum, Notts. I'm always really nervous about any garage scratching my wheels when they take them on and off with their air ratchets etc - way too many bad experiences! Zentrum seem to get good write ups and arn't too far from me so might give them a go.

You could try Jeff Fowkes in Ibstock. http://www.fowkesauto.com/
