total my car has cost me since i bought it in october 2008!!

Hi Guys, Was just looking at TVR Cerberas on pistonheads as i know how expensive they are to maintain but think i have made them look cheap! Have just been through my receipts for the last 18 months and it totalled £12,731 not including insurance which is another £2600 but still covered until October....DAMN!! Maybe i should have bought the Cerbera... To be honest and i know its what alot of you will be thinking, and yes, i did spend money on some extravagant extras eg stereo, hid lights, tints, kw suspension, two suspension tune ups at center of gravity, wheel refurb and did waste around £850 having something done (wont go into naming and shaming) which needed reinstalling by center gravity as it was installed amazingly badly by someone who should know better, but all in all i could have spent probably around 5k less if i wasnt so fastidious. The rest of expenditure was tyres, coolant bottle, one radiator, some suspension components, service, oxygen sensors, steering rack and other fixes here and there through very reputable indies. Anyway...can anyone top that?

Hi, that is a lot and I've also spent a lot but no where near you. I could only see anyone topping that with an engine replacement! Since 2008, I've had two services and warranty extensions. One major, one minor, full set of disks and pads plus the front lower arms replaced. That's about 2500 (warranties) 3000 (services) 1000 (disk pads) 500 (lower arms). Ive bought new wheels (800), out two new rears on (500) replaced one rear after it split (250) replaced both rears on saturday after the same thing happened (420, as went from MPS2 to Pirelli Rosso n4) and replacedy previous rears on my old wheels just before changing (400). Had a geo as well, 150. Other bits done on warranty, bit not 2500 worth!! So that's about 10,000. Probably a few thing missed, but about 10k total. Ibought the car in Jan 08, so if I include the service and work from then, that would be another 3k on top, but your figure would only include two services.

One of the reasons i bought a Porsche is that its something that doesnt need messing about with, i do have an obsession with detailing but thats as far as it goes, i just service and replace parts as needed, ive had it for a couple of years now and ive only had to fork out on a Alternator, clutch and oil seals and tyres . . . . so id say its cost me around 4-5 k in two years. . Im getting my wheels refurbed this month which'll be 300 and im gonna get front and rear bumpers sprayed and new mats as well so itll look brand new for the summer after i detail it. . . . . .oh and i bought new centre caps for my wheels and they were an extortionate 170 quid ! Basically i think we've summised that owning a Porsche is expensive LOL ! but worth it :thumb:

LOL, I thought this thread was going to be another smug owner exclaiming that he's run a supercar for the price of a pair of shoelaces... Good to hear someone talking about realistic car running costs. I'd waiger the "enthusiat" nature of people on here suggests higher than average expenditure as most invest in preventative measures or upgrades/mods rather than just fixing what's gone wrong. Mind you, 2,600 on insurance I do hope that's 2 years' policy costs...

Hi Buddy, Im with Bell direct insurance and they were the best i could find, for around £1300 per year and thats with no previous accidents and 4 years no claims, and im 31. I have to get that down this year when it runs out. I live in Ealing, west london.

Just to give the counter argument... Had mine about a year and a half: Spend on service & 6 new coils 1000; insurance 500 per annum; AA & tracker 300 per annum; 4 tyres 700; call it 2,500 per annum, but... The smile on my face? Priceless. OK, so I'm about to have a big service, and do brakes and geo, and probably MAF, and new front PU, but even so!

Suspension refresh - Control arms/bushes etc Geo Rear disks and pads Forge DV valves Cargraphic Exhaust New remap - Parr RS 6 pot caliper front brake conversion Another Geo It all adds up
