Does anyone know in what year there was a change from the smooth to textured finish?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gotta get replacement interior door panels due to damaged carpet. My panels have a textured finish. The '98 non-S Jake Raby loaned me while doing my IMS retrofit had door panels with a smooth finish. Does anyone know in what year there was a change from the smooth to textured finish? Or is this an S versus non-S difference? Gary '02 S

POST 2Original post

Do you have a picture of what part you are talking about? I am not sure what exactly what part you mean, but plastic door panels were standard with leather was an optional upgrade. That may be the difference you are talking about.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The carpet's glued on and there's no easy way to replace it. For less than $200 delivered I can get a nice used pair of complete door panels. Attached is a photo showing the texture. Looks like vinyl to me and matches the texture of the dash. My car definitely doesn't have the upgraded full leather interior. Found a place in AZ called Precision Chassis Works with a pair of a '99 that they say has the textured finish.
