I've noticed many cars are fresh from a service - which included just an oil and filter change - a decent 111 point check or equivalent would give greater reassurance.

Comments are interesting. Obviously had to buy it to secure the RS allocation.
Make sure you are happy with the buckets they are not to everyone’s taste, not heated either which is a shame.
Apart from that it looks lovely and well specified.
Not sure he bought it to secure the RS as it sounds like it was bought from Romans. Plus ad states one owner but there’s obviously two. Looks nice though.
Or rather was ordered from OPC and then put it SOR at Romans..it didn’t move and decided to stick it on CC.
Sounds like the customer is a decent player at their OPC if they got a Cayenne Turbo GT allocation and now getting a 992 RS. They just took their Spyder order as they said they would and OPC probably didn’t want to restock it…

I think the vendor on CC bought it from Romans a few weeks ago and is now selling. Least that’s what the comments suggest.

That’s not what the owner implied in the comments but it wouldn’t be entirely inconsistent with the words. Doesn’t really matter.
I’ll watch with interest as I bought a highly specced gentian blue one this summer at top of the market. I don’t mind as I knew I was buying in summer with the market was only heading south. I’ve had some great top down drives in the meantime so I’m not complaining.
My bet would be 95k incl fees. I think that’s where retail might be and this car is pretty much at retail quality/warranty.
Sounds like the CC game to me!
Cars listed then disappear then reappear, rinse repeat!
What ever happened to the very nice red 991.2 GT3 listed recently?
Nice looking car though

£95K all in would suggest bidding ends at £90K if my maths are correct? So possibly a tad behind list for the seller.

IMO, a dull and uninspired spec. As the masters of selling 'safe' coloured cars', if Roman's were unable to shift it (on SOR) then it's going to be very hard sell.
Not even a FOC contrast stitch, just the upgrade leather with black stitch. A fun/toy car in a snoozefest of black black and black.
I have to agree regarding the spec - how dour.
One of the OPC’s had a pts British Racing Green Spyder a few weeks back and it sold straight away….nice to have something a bit different ain’t it- black just ain’t very inspiring.

I agree. Even a bit of yellow in stitch and belts to match the calipers would be better than what it is. Even the badges are black!
Reading the sellers comments on CC it does read as if he just bought it from Romans so is in fact the second owner

The owner hasn't driven it or registered it in his name, so it is still 1 owner!

AFAIK, that's not possible, not unless the current 'owner' is a trader...

I’ve seen that and it makes no sense at all. On reflection you’d have to be quite brave (or foolhardy?) to pay £90K plus to a guy who didn’t even have the car registered in his own name/address. Or is that just me?

It's not just you, this has got shenanigan/smokescreen written all over it. My guess is one of the following:
1. The car was sold by an OPC to the current 'owner', the current owner tried to sell the car on SOR via Romans but failed. The current owner is now trying to sell it on CC.
or
2. A trader bought it from Romans at cost and is now trying to realise the asset by selling on CC, but claiming to be a private seller.
AFAIK those are the only two ways that car can still be sold as a '1 owner' car. Either way, my take is it's a poorly chosen spec colour car which on reflection means the seller can't get for the desired wanted price.
Surely you’d be mad to buy a car like this from someone that doesn’t have the car registered in their name? Unless I suppose Romans are willing to vouch for him and he can prove he is who he says he is. If that can be done I would be a bit happier. If not who’s to say you’re not paying someone for a car that belongs to someone else?
Black leather and Race Tex? Looks like alcantara to me on a driver’s seat that looks like it’s done 19,000 miles and not 1,900.
Given the deletion of heated carbon folding buckets I thought Porsche had upped its game to at least offer the only available carbon seat as a heated option? It’s not difficult to do in these given the seat pads can be removed. A non heated seat in a convertible is a faux pas.

A quick HPI reveals it is indeed still on DVLA as 0 previous owners, also has a finance flag against it. Anyone know how that works if buying on CC?
Probably some type of stocking finance, might just take a while for hpi type systems to be updated.

Reading the comments on CC it appears the seller has added the finance to the car and also he has confirmed the V5 is in Someone else’s name. Under these circumstances you would have to be a real risk taker to bid, as if you won, you’d be paying the CC £6K odd fee before you knew whether the guy was actually clearing the finance. I’m out!
Probably all irrelevant now as the bid is £85000 +fees, so now you can walk into a main dealer and buy one hassle free for the same money...
Will be interesting if Sytnerbuyer wins the car and is actually Sytner as is it we will all see it on their website...

Yes but you can’t walk in and buy a 22 registered car with PDK, buckets and ceramics for £90K all in, sadly!
The asking prices at dealers and the deal price are not quite the same at the moment… I have actually spoke to numerous dealers this week and today bought one. Not a 2022 model and a few more miles but much less money than this one.
This black one on CC is now just about top money In my opinion. But I agree with all on this post, it’s a risky situation to buy this car privately.

hearse spec
So, this Spyder finishes tomorrow night. What do we think it will end up at. I think £94k plus fees. Last time I saw it on the Romans site it was £109,950 so that could be an expensive period of ownership!
it won't sell as its on the wrong platform for anyone to shift a car to make it worthwhile, the auction fees kill any chance for the seller getting decent money, the only winner there is the advertising agent getting over £5000 just for listing a car.
I would suspect there will be some shill bidding going on and the car will end up unsold.
He obviously hopes to sell it for more than Romans offered him ... there aren't many dealers who would want to make less than the auction fees ... and if the reserve is right he won't have to sell it for less than he wants to ??

We’ll see what happens I guess. Given the issue with the log book and the finance I’d imagine taking £95k from Romans and swallowing a c.£15k loss would be easier than messing about with private punters on CC!
Smells fishy this one, owned with finance but not registered, bought just 3 weeks ago and now for sale.
Mix in that you won’t get it inspected or viewed. Everything you are advised against.

It’s difficult for a vendor when this happens on CC. I’m sure it’s all legitimate but the circumstances are such that it looks fishy and then when the car is sold on by someone else this will all be dragged up again. That’s the internet for you I guess.

Not really anything to do with the internet, it’s fishy because at face value it is.
It’s showing as a one owner car, the comments then suggest it isn’t as the vendor bought it 3 weeks ago but has elected not to register it in his name as you are legally obliged to do.
I’d wonder if he’s a trader - however the car is showing as taxed, can anybody explain how you’d do that legally after buying it without registering the car?
I think problem with this is all the people that are asking the questions are people that should turn off the auction site and just go and buy from a main dealer rather than trying to get all the benefits of buying from an OPC without paying the prices. Nothing I have read would deter me from buying that car other than its not the colour I would want.
and to tax, easy enough just tax with the new keeper green slip online and do a direct debit, once you part with the car just cancel the DD, this way it doesn't add another keeper, you will find a lot of traders do this all the time.

What makes me smell a rat is the the auction price was loaded up so quickly by traders?
I get the impression CC is a traders house of cars, cars go online disappear near the end of auction to reappear up for sale with another dealer then back on CC.
Rinse Repeat!

I always wonder why these trade buyers openly declare who they are…you’d think they’d be better served by being more discrete.
The first 3 bidders were never in any danger of owning it though with what they bid.

Gawd there are timewarp 930 and 964 C2 for sale on CC too. This spyder will fly out the door tom. If you don't like the colour just wrap it and preserve the black paint. Its a very short supply car non on OPC website when I last checked a few weeks ago? Those 918 seats have never been available with seat heating in 992 or 718 and they are the seats to have in the spyder. Looks perfect spec to me

There were 18 on the OPC website last night, though only one with PDK and buckets. 15 were manual which I guess is the transmission the market prefers given that split. I’d have a PDK personally. Ashgood have a year older car at £84k which they say in ‘priced to sell’.
Sorry I meant PDK. I agree I'd love PDK as I hear the manuals are long geared too help meet emissions regs. PDK solves this
Its a new car so it will be very interesting to see how much it sells for. I love it personally looks absolutely stunning.

Its not new - its a 22 plate with one / really two owners??

Just ask to see the log book re nos of owners. Thats all that matters. Its a nearly new car. Not a hand grenade!
Think you haven’t read the thread it’s being sold by somebody who elected not to register it in their name. But has taxed it.
So if interested in the car there is a comments section where you can ask the vendor any questions you like and he seems kosher to me. So he's not swapped the log book over thats all. Its still a one owner car. Whether a trader in disguise or a private vendor buy the car not the seller IMO.
And it seems that there are only 2 PDK cars for sale in UK at the mo?! The bidding always goes mad last few hours on CC. These are lovely cars this one still virtually new. Whats not to like? I say get it bought OP if you like it

From what I have read and happy to be proved wrong but there really is not a lot in it between the 2 boxes. And imho a car like a Spyder needs to be a manual only period!
The Gt4 is the one to have the choices.

I don't think it's necessarily what the market prefers (although some individuals might), if I recall the manual was available, or at least produced, before the PDK option.
my 981 Spyder was manual and that was the reason I parted company with it, the ratios I found if nothing short of frustrating, current GTS is PDK combined with a peakier engine for me is streets ahead, I also think the amount of manuals vs PDKs that are for sale also speaks volumes. Forum talk on these is manual is the way to go, people need to drive both for a good while and come to their own conclusions, I found forum / reality is a very different thing.
FWIW I have numerous, what I would class as "drivers cars" currently, the only auto is the Porsche.

I think with CC private buyers are not prepared for the wild west which is basically what auctions are. I think the "endorsement" of PH's own resident Porsche ambassador Mr Harris lures people into thinking everything's all on an up an up and they are going to have a gold plated consumer experience.
The reality is that an auction is an auction. You could be buying anything. Getting butthurt about the ownership of the car and if the guy is trade or not? Why does it matter? I'd be more interested in climbing under it and checking every mm of the car for damage/make sure the Vin is right etc. What
I'm trying to say is the worry list at auctions is WAY longer than fussing about who's selling it.
as I mentioned in an earlier post these are the people that need to stick to sipping the fancy coffee in the main dealer showroom and listening to the pointy toed sharp suited salesman.

Thread will be closed unless you stick specifically to accurate comments, so
1 Its an auction platform with fees payable on the hammer falling
2 CC advised that all descriptions are from the vendor and aren't validated
3. Unlike buying from BCA or Manheim there is no quality check, mechanical or qualitative evaluation, nor ability to get a refund of 7.2% fees if car is not as described and you don't proceed to purchase.
4. Its generally pretty difficult to go and inspect a car prior to or during the auction
5. It should be assumed that it'd be a good way for a dealer to get rid of a troublesome car as the auction terms differ from standard sale terms
6. You have a new 'managed sale' category which is dealers selling cars on the platform they dont own nor take any accountability for
Its great for ultra rare cars, personally i'd like to see some form of inspection undertaken prior to listing. I've noticed many cars are fresh from a service - which included just an oil and filter change - a decent 111 point check or equivalent would give greater reassurance.
Billy_Whizzzz said:
Probably being thick but what does spending £6000 in fees get you on CC compared with £60 on eBay?
The only thing it gets the seller is a guaranteed sale. No winning ebay bidder would ever turn up. CC charge the fees on completion of the auction so it's good for chaff sorting as it simply sidesteps all the timewasters.
Porsche do seen to perform well on CC bit like with this Spyder you're paying retail for something with no legal recourse to the seller. Why?
Almost none of the cars are selling.
And that's not surprising really is it...
Behind the scenes now deals might be done, for the Spyder it needs to wait for spring really to achieve current asking prices, that's what most dealers I spoke to this month have said.
7 cars in a row did not sell. All bid to really fair levels. Inexplicable vendors didn't let them all go. Bird in the hand i can not see any of those cars suddenly being worth more next year inc this spyder. £90k a really fair bid when you inc fees.

I fully agree. I’m often surprised at the reserves applied to cars for sale on CC. In my mind a seller should be hoping for a little bit more than a trade offer, some way less than main dealer retail. Many seem to have reserves that imply an expected sales + fees price of nigh on retail.
If you’d like a Spyder head to a dealer and haggle. The poster above might be right that prices will improve in the spring, but even if that’s correct that’s several months away and many dealers will could be thinking about cash flow and stocking loan interest.

If anyone hasn't noticed theres an enormous financial crisis in full swing. Expectations ned to be completely reset.
anyone bidding 90K, even 80K on that Spyder - a car far from being a necessity - are not affected by the financial crisis one iota. It has nothing to do with that, more so it is the wrong time of year to sell a car like that - it will just attract dealers to buy it and sit on it until Spring - therefore no surprise it made dealer price and no more.

I believe the CC terms allow for a failed sell to be repriced with CC cutting its fee. This isn’t quite that, but I suspect it was very close to reserve and CC and the vendor have done a deal at 94k total where such a deal has effectively been done.

If it had been bid to £90k (I did not see the end of the auction) then there must have been a buyer willing to pay £90k + £6.3k) = £96,300
Which is less than the suggested price now ?
Sometimes I wonder if they have preferred buyers who do not need to pay the full 7%
IMHO can’t see prices for any cars being better in spring!
Good sort after cars will sell any time of year.
If a 718 Spyder is the right spec. and price I am a sure there is still a number of people out there with the cash that would be all over one, the problem is they are no longer prepared to pay overs but instead rather sit and wait and if it’s spring and more come to the market it’s buyers choice and to attract a buyer prices will be cut.
In any down turn it’s always wise to take the money that’s offered on the table as tomorrow it will be less!

A lot of sellers have their heads in the sand, bigger loses to come next year.
Quick scan of the CC sold section suggests, UK car sales only declined from rolling 7 day avg of 6.14 (a day) a month ago, to 6.0 (past 7 days) - so not much of a drop (yet).
There is no drop, across the board that is. Sure, reality bites for 922 Turbo S's (and the like) but we are coming to the end of the 992 Gen 1 era - it isn't down to the economic state of affairs.
Used car prices are still going UP despite cost of living crisis.

I guess like any auction it is impossible to know if all the bidders actually intend to buy the car or there a mate of the seller etc. £90k is a very fair price for that car.
Very different price level but the blue F40 that got bid to £2mil on CC a few weeks ago and didn’t sell seemed hard to believe.
Fake bids or mates bids should be banned in the UK by law. Its potentially likely that £90k (£97k with fees) bid and or other bids on this car may not be real or it would be out the door at £94k IMO. Awful if I'm perhaps right. Not cricket. Dear me.
I don’t understand how any dodgy bidding could work. Surely you risk winning the auction and paying the fee?
Anyway, my bet is that this car appears in the NY at a dealer listed at £102,500.

Dealer mate knows reserve is set at 92k+fees therefore is able to bid upto 90k knowing he won't meet reserve, pushing price up to reserve for any genuine potential purchaser.
90k bid was clearly fake otherwise this would not still be available now for 94k all in.
My GRY got bid on by a supposed hk based bidder who then vanished after winning the car at auction, I can’t believe he paid £1800 in fees to CC not to even respond to any emails post auction…..

If you look carefully cars seem to get bid at the start of many auctions by the same user names, they never end up winning. I would suggest your sale fell into this bracket!

Yeah that would be the way to do it. Not illegal I don't think. At the end of the day if a genuine bidder wants to bid they are free to. In a physical auction the auctioneer can legally pretend there's been a bid Google chandelier bidding.
Again this stuff comes down to just reminding people it's an auction and not for the delicate flowers that love consumer rights and get riled about such practices. You are playing in the big boy playground. If you don't like it go sip the coffee in the dealerships as JeffC suggested.
Collecting cars aren't doing anything wrong here by the way I'm not at all criticizing them I've used them to sell (I would never buy unless I could view the car) it's marketed to private buyers but Auctions really are they the place for private buyers? Some but certainly not all.

Makes sense. I guess if it’s worth it to the buyer then fine.
A Renault Spider sold by the Renault Collection in March has just re-sold for around £10k less ... in the space of nine months ...
Nice car, but we all know why ...

And this shows how careful one has to be ... I would suggest time of year and the change in market capacity and sentiment ... but over 25% is a big hit for very few miles.

Not quite as easy as that……
In your scenario whereby friend bids it up to just under reserve, CC can reduce their fees so friend who bid 90 could win auction.
If seller’s reserve was £92 and CC were wanting 6% plus vat that would mean buyer pays….
£92,000
£5,520 6% CC
£1,104 vat
£98,624 of which seller gets £92,000.
If CC reduce their fees
£90,000 Friend bidding it up
£5,400 6%
£800 vat
£96,200 of which seller gets his £92,000 and CC take less £3,400 and £800 vat……..
Re the £90k bid being ‘clearly fake’ both seller and CC have the right to structure a deal at end of action.
Seller could say ok I will take £90,000 if you drop your fees and we do a ‘buy it now price of £94,000
Despite being in “hearse livery” that’s a Tempting buy for someone at £94K all in. I do wonder if the seller is actually some how involved with Romans etc - would explain the whole log book thing.

That’s a nice car but the creasing on the seat is pretty bad considering the mileage no?
Just looked at that - near 7 year old buckets on my car are unmarked in comparison (and I’m not particularly fussy over them) so seems very odd.
Optics of the sale seem unnecessarily complicated - vendor seemingly not understanding the difference between being a the registered keeper of the car and driving it, lower “buy it now “ price etc don’t make a great deal of sense on the face of it. Surprised you can auction a car with outstanding finance too.
Probably all above board but don’t think the vendor has done himself any favours in what is now clearly a buyers market.

No doubt all you experts making false accusations will all be apologising to CC…….
Your analysis is a good one but there are other variables which I don’t think discussing here will serve anyone….
That would appear to prove the point of false bidding ... of course a vendor could tell a mate what the reserve is ... etc.
It just makes the whole complicated story seem even more complicated ... even if the car may be fine, the vendor adds a question ...
But what can CC do to ameliorate this ? Ban the vendor ?

Smoke and mirrors, the car failed to sell as no wanted it at 90k
If someone thought it was worth 90k they would go actually bought it.
These cars are dropping in price monthly, cost to borrowing has shot up making them expensive to own for most.
I can see this car being less than 80k by this time next year.

What did that make out of interest?
Here’s a very similar car but manual which looks to be more common. It is POA. Given the value of the CC car, I wonder how much this one will sell for.
