The first time I desnorked, I used the method of prying around the PU grille aand getting to the clips with a flathead, and it takes way longer is a PITA compared to this second method.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I can't seem to get to the clips! I tried using the smallest slotted screwdriver I could find, but that didn't help at all. I just can't get there. If anyone can give me some pointers, that'd be great. If anyone in Miami could give me a hand, that'd be even better. Thanks guys

POST 2Original post

Without undoing any clips, pull out on the painted polyuretahane grille and it will separate from the black plastic grille which has the clips on it. Then you will have perfect access to the clips and can undo them and remove the black plastic, giving you access to the snorkel. I believe it was RussK who first discovered this method and posted it in the original (really-long) thread for de-snorking. Everything pops back into place. The first time I desnorked, I used the method of prying around the PU grille aand getting to the clips with a flathead, and it takes way longer is a PITA compared to this second method. - Suneet

POST 3Original post

Thanks! I'm gonna go try it right now. Wish me luck

POST 4Original post

Is there any special way of pulling the painted piece off? It seems to be holding on pretty tight, and I don't want to break the thing.

POST 5Original post

Ok so I just went out and did it again... this picture shows you where I pulled, and the bottom popped out first. I grabbed the PU, and just pulled till the bottom started to come out, and then grabbed the bottom with two fingers and pulled till it separated, then went around the edges tugging evenly. This pic shows the plastic grille piece still intact with pins exposed... you can now use a flathead or even your fingers to unclip those pins.

POST 6Original post

Kevin, This will help you some more... the PU piece and plastic piece are held on to each other by little plastic tabs, on the middle horizontal grill pieces. Go upto the grille and pull up on the P\U black painted part, separating it from the plastic part and then pull out. Note the spots I circled in the pictures, those are the where the little tabs from the PU piece go into the plastic grile piece, pull apart there and pull out. - Suneet

POST 7Original post

Thanks! I just finished getting it done. Now that I did it the first time, I'm sure the following times will be much easier It's not hard at all. Thanks for all of your help! And doubly thanks for going out and taking pictures just to help a fellow Cayman brother out. Above and beyond the call of duty.

POST 8Original post

Just a note, the article in our Articles section does mention that if you can get these apart that is great and makes it easier, however, some people have tried to separate these and have broken those thin black cross member black pieces in which case you need to order a whole new black piece. Either method is fine, but it seems that some go together tighter than others and make one method easier or harder vs. the other.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
