Does anybody know if the Das Schild Hood Protector can be installed with the Vredestein spare tyre?. Will the hood close?
See the attached photos of both devices. (I used photos from mpollard and KmanS; hope that they don't mind. Thanks guys)
Continental Spare Tyre
I also saw this spare tyre. It seems to be from Continental, not Vredestein.
Has anybody bought it?. Will it work with the Das Schild hood protector?.
Thanks.
Have not seen the tire but the hood protector (which I have) should not interfer with it at all.
I highly doubt it will interfere as Santa Fe says, likely inches of clearance...
And since Das Schild is a sponsor you get a discount when ordering and mentioning the Cayman Club.
Yeah. I'm asking because I just bought the hood protector and I'm thinking about the spare tyre. Do you have it (hood protector)?
I have it, see install article in Articles section on how to install it. I see no way that it will interfere with a spare tire it just isn't that thick.
I'm also interested in more information about the spare tire mentioned in this thread. Where can I view a price sheet and specs if available?
Nevermind...I just needed to do a little more research.
The current spare is Vredestein. Conti is most likely from a 944 or some other car. Vredestein will NOT sell the spare to any aftermarket dealer or an individual as apparantly Porsche and MB "own" the wheels. You MUST buy them from a dealer (at least this is what Vredestein NA customer service told me today).
Here
is the webpage and you will see the Cayman S listed.
The spare is 17". Can it be used on a CS w/19" wheels?
your current wheels have nothing to do with it. The only thing that matters is the caliper clearance and for balance, the diameter (not the width) of the tire. Spare is 17" 60 series. thats -2 size or 19" 40 series. Its fine. In other words, if the car came with 60 series 17" tires, 19" 40 series should be +2 sizing.
