Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • PistonHeads: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

CBA to get it fixed given it's only useful 2 weeks of a year, it's likely to cost in the region £400 to get it done (pipe is £180, 2 hrs labour and a re-gas), and there's a fairly decent chance it's not the only part that's leaking (the condensers are known to be made of cheese for a start).

No unique explicit quoted action; no causal link assigned

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Said goodbye to my cayman yesterday after over a year of ownership and just have to say what a cracking car it was. Despite all the horror stories it didn't miss a beat and was genuinely one of the best cars I've owned (out of 30+) - Reliable, great handling and well built. I can't think of what more anyone else in the market for an everyday 2 seater could want. Great cars in my opinion and would recommend to anyone Cheers, Dunc. POST 2Original post

Totally agree, they are a great car and especially for the money now. Its easy to lose sight of the fact there are thousands of owners out there driving them every day, many probably totally oblivious to the internet hysteria. I have no desire to 'upgrade' to a later model because the performance difference vs cost just doesnt make it worth it, well that is unless the GT4 comes down to 20k in a few years time, ok dream on!

POST 3Original post

To a chap picking up my first gen 1 3.4S tomorrow this is such a great post. Beautiful car - looks incredible in black.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well its replacement at half the mileage has only lasted a week before breaking so by my reckoning that makes the Porsche engine it 64 times more reliable than a toyota engine Dunc.

POST 6Original post

Well this post doesn't help ! I have 17k sat here waiting to buy a Cayman At first I wanted a 3.4 then read about the bore scoring , so then I decided on a 2.7 but most seem to come with very poor spec And I think the cayman looks so much better with multi spoke wheels as in the picture in this thread but again most 2.7 don't have these so I don't know what to do , finally in a position to buy my dream car and i'm in perpetual limbo !

POST 7Original post

Get out and buy one. I had my Gen. 1 car for 8 years,(ETA 3.4) and apart from consumables like tyres, brakes and a set of lower control arms, the only things it needed were a temperature sensor and a lambda sensor. My experiences with other supposedly reliable makes; e.g. Audi, VW, Subaru were nowhere near as painless.

POST 8Original post

Great post, I'm picking up my first Porsche on Saturday, a 2006 Cayman S 3.4. I've got a few toys already, but I'm really excited about picking up the Porsche!

POST 9Original post

My 2006 Cayman S did me perfectly fine and trouble free for 2 years and only come the time when I chopped it in did it require a new clutch and track rod ends at 68K miles, so not unexpected really.

My 2.7 is for sale - grey, 19's (the 911S lobster claw ones) sport pack (so PASM and 6 speed box) heated seats, sound package plus - 7 months OPC warranty remaining, PM me if you want some details.

ilduce said: Oh hang on....ha ha... only 12 months... hilarious. To be fair, I've had mine 5 years and the only two things that have failed have been the SPP amplifier (fixed by a bloke in Norway for €120) and an air-con pipe is leaking. If I could rip the whole system out easily, I would. Actual reliability wise, I've been all over Europe, use it most of the year round (I only put it away while there's salt on the roads). and am with the OP in it being one of the best cars I've ever owned.
