After two years I turned the AC on and no cooling. Took the car to the dealer and it had lost coolant. They checked the pressure and ran a few tests and could not find the problem in the system. Recharged it and put some dye in it so when it happens again ( and it will) they can use an IR light to spot the source of the problem. They told me that it probably will take a while for this gas to leak out again!
Problem not fixed....just put off for a year or so
Anyone have this problem with the Cayman?
By this "After two years I turned the AC", did you mean that you haven't turned on the AC for two years or that the AC has been working fine for two years?
there have been several reports over the tome the cars have been out of problems with leaking A/C systems - it happens on all cars. If you really haven't turned on the A/C for two years, then there's probably a seal or two that are not sealing anymore. You should operate your A/C system three or four times a year just to circulate the refrigerant through the system. The refrigerant has lubricants in it to keep the seals soft. If you don't run the system for very long periods of time, the seals get hard and leak.
On the other hand, if you're saying the car is only two years old, and has a leak, then what the dealer is doing is the correct way of finding the leak - they can't very well rip out the entire system and replace it.

I have an 07 and had that problem a couple of months ago.
The dealer performed a leak/moisture test and found a leak on one of the lines. They replaced that line under warranty and everything has been ok. No issues so far.
Thanks for the reply. They did the same test but said that the hole is so small that the system passed all the tests. OH well!
Thanks
What I ment is that this year when i needed it ....it failed to cool. Last year was fine.
Sorry about the wording!

My '05 Boxster (25K Miles) suffered a leak in the system as well and it ruined the A/C compressor. The leak and the compressor were replaced under warranty two weeks ago. Looks like a common(?) problem. Keep an eye on it until the leak shows itself.
My 2007 CS had an AC that was so cold, I cold that I ad to keep it at 2 or 3 notches, or I'd freeze. Then, after 8 months, it blew warm air. The dealer checked it and said it had a loose O ring. It was replaced and all was right with the world. THEN, 6 months later, it started blowing luke warm air. I took it to the dealer and was told it "met suitable expectations." On a very hot day--97 degrees--it won't keep us from sweating. It blows about as cold as my 1985 Trans Am, but the dealer says it's "suitable." C'est la vie.
I wouldn't accept that response from the dealer. Those of us in Texas experience 100 plus degree days and the AC can handle it without a problem and it will keep you from sweating even in the worst of weather. Don't give up. With such a small cabin regardless of the temperature outside it should still cool you down.
I had a similar problem in my Cayman; a month after delivery the system blew warm air. The dealer couldn't find the leak so they recharged it and added dye. Six months later, same thing ... they still couldn't find the leak so they recharged it and added more dye. Five months later, during the annual service, they found a bad hose in the nose of the car. That seemed to solve the problem because it was fine when I returned the car a year later.
A few months ago, my '07 starting making hissing and gurgling noises when I'd turn on the A/C. Took it to the dealer and they said a seal was twisted. Replaced under warranty.
I think I may be hearing traces of it again. Fortunately, summer is on the way so I'll be able to "test" it a lot and take it back in if it's still leaking.
