Just to clarify the slowness is from when I pull the lever and instantly the readout shows I have changed but then it's about 1 second before the shift physically takes place.

Now I am enjoying the drive I've checked my boost and the car comfortable holds 1.0 bar on full throttle in all gears from 2nd up only occasionally dropping to 0.9 after circa the 10sec cut off?!?

So local OPC had car most of last week and technically there was nothing 'wrong' with the shifts, however they spent several hours checking her over and performed an extended test drive with a laptop plugged in to reset gear change and clutch biting points.

Anyway I am now much happier with the car and grateful to my local OPC (byfleet) for only charging me for an hours labour, small note to mention is warranty will only cover costs if a part is replaced not just modified with software.

as a result I can only drive in normal mode where the gear change is shockingly slow and comfortable resulting in me using auto all the time which I don't like either lol.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi there I'm looking for some advice on how to improve my gear change as it's very slow! I purchased my car with the intention of retro fitting sports chrono which I had already priced up at my local porsche dealership only to find out once I tried to book my new car in it is not possible!?! Apparently the gen 2 turbo is the only car which can not have sport chrono retro fitted for reasons which can not be explained? as a result I can only drive in normal mode where the gear change is shockingly slow and comfortable resulting in me using auto all the time which I don't like either lol.
Any help/advice or recommendations of a tuner who can assist will greatfully be received, thank you in advance.

There is a difference between retro fitting the Sport Chrono and the Sport button (which would have come with the Sports Chrono if a factory order).
I would have thought it is just the Sport button that you want - the Chrono itself is just the timer.
Try a different OPC and ask for just the Sport button retrofit. Expect £550 ish.

The retrofit didn't include the timer and you are right that it is just the sport button and software I require but they're saying this isn't possible on the gen 2 turbo but is on every other 997?
I looked into this on a 997.1 Turbo. £850 I was quoted from one OPC, but a service advisor at another OPC said that Porsche were trying to stop having the build spec of cars changed post leaving the factory. Maybe your 997.2 Turbo is a victim of this?

I certainly hope not or that would be a real shame, the OPC did show me a price list of all other 997s which also showed that it's just the gen 2 which it wasn't available for.
When I first had my 991 PDK, I couldn't believe how slow the change was, particularly first to second even in sport - I was most disappointed. Then I had the opportunity to give it some beans and after 10 mins or so the change speeded up - learning programme maybe?
Not sure if it's the same on yours or not...
My GTS with PDK is very quick on both full auto and paddles, and when I drove a Gen 2 turbo with PDK was exactly the same. The only (noticeable) difference I get when in Sports or Sports Plus is a bit of a kick in the back on up shifts. Without wanting to alarm you, have the OPC checked for any software updates and/or issues with the PDK itself?
Just to clarify the slowness is from when I pull the lever and instantly the readout shows I have changed but then it's about 1 second before the shift physically takes place. The previous owners were both gentleman of a certain age who never used the car (15k miles in 4.5years) so if the car can 'learn' then this is something I will try, thanks

Learning does not affect shift speed when you pull the paddle. Learning just affects the behaviour of the computer in full auto mode. If it takes a whole second to shift when oil is warm then there is a problem with your box.

No problem let us know how you get on. I am keen not to renew my own turbos warranty and this type of thing makes me nervous. Most gen 2 turbo problems seem to be software or electrical and not mechanical.
Best of luck, regardless of whether in normal, sports or sports plus and paddles/full auto, my shifts are pretty much instantaneous...absolutely not anywhere near a second. Should the OPC give you any grief ('it's a characteristic of the car sir'), drive one of their stock - my experience of the gen 2 turbo was again pretty much instantaneous shifts.
UPDATE**
So local OPC had car most of last week and technically there was nothing 'wrong' with the shifts, however they spent several hours checking her over and performed an extended test drive with a laptop plugged in to reset gear change and clutch biting points. I now have the car back and have be able to drive and enjoy the car properly for the first time! On full throttle the up shifts are very quick (not instant like my previous GTR and 1st to 2nd nigh on impossible to get right lol) on partial throttle they are not quite as fast and on light throttle they are still slow? Downshifts have always been instant which I do find strange as surely these should take longer than an up shift? Anyway I am now much happier with the car and grateful to my local OPC (byfleet) for only charging me for an hours labour, small note to mention is warranty will only cover costs if a part is replaced not just modified with software.
Next question if you guys don't mind is about this sport button which I don't have nor can I retrofit unfortunately. Now I am enjoying the drive I've checked my boost and the car comfortable holds 1.0 bar on full throttle in all gears from 2nd up only occasionally dropping to 0.9 after circa the 10sec cut off?!? Can anyone explain this as I'd be very surprised if the car has had any ECU tuning carried out? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Did they charge to investigate even though you had warranty??
Take somewhere for remap if you want more bite. Easy to do and not expensive.(assuming you take to right place)

Sport would give 1.2 bar boost not 1.0 bar.....
That would be in a gen1 car my understanding is a gen 2 car runs 0.8 in normal and 1.0 bar in sport?

Hey matey. Maximum boost on a Gen 2 is 1.0 Bar and 1.2 bar with overboost for 10 seconds. Overboost is permanent on the 997 Turbo S.

I guess I'll look into some ECU adjustments then ;-) any advice on who's best to flash the ECU ? Anyone used a COBB access port on a 997.2 turbo? Car currently has a Miltek exhaust with cats but standard air filter.
