Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The following parts in the engine are replaced, exchanged or modified to achieve this increased performance:
Leading evidence: 'Replace exchanged or modified' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace exchanged or modified' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I've got the X51 in mine but haven't really driven a standard car back to back (only the odd test drive in a 320hp car) but I understand most of the difference is at the top end.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
After having owned a 986 and a 986S I finally bought my first 911 on Saturday (2003 black c4s coupe) and absolutely love it.
My question is I read there was a power upgrade on the 996 from 320 bhp - 345 bhp (as standard on the Anniversary ones so I believe) and I wondered if it is possible to have this done on my car?
Is it just a simple re-map or is there more involved?
I live in Farnborough, Hampshire so any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Phil

If you really wanted to, you could have the X51 Power Kit retrofitted. The cost of the kit is £6284 inc VAT, and the book time for the job is 22.6 hours. Gone off the idea? :hammer:

- my new baby.
Over £6000 for that!? Yeah I have gone off the idea somewhat!
I will try PARR, don't really wanna pay much for than a grand for that if I'm honest.
Thanks for the welcomes!
Congrats Phil, lovely looking car there.
Out of interest, what do the two buttons above the intermittant wipe adjustment switch do on the right side of the centre console? Are they to do with the PCM display?
They're blank switches in mine (I have no PCM) and I have button envy!
Thanks very much!
The bottom button is for interior footwell lighting and the middle button is to turn the PSE off (which will probably be rarely!)
Spoke to DMS this morning and they can do the re-map for around £1k.
Just not sure it will make much of a difference to be honest, has anyone driven a 320bhp and a 345bhp 996?
Ah, makes sense.
I can understand about not wanting to turn the exhaust off. You might want to do a quick search on here for instructions on disabling the "quiet mode" too

GT4 may well be able to give more info about it.
Bear in mind though that the X51 powerkit giving 345hp isn't just a remap - there are quite a few different engine components.
Edit: just found details of the kit:
A parts set –"Carrera Powerkit"– is available to retrofit the standard engine with an increased performance of 254 kW (345 HP). The following parts in the engine are replaced, exchanged or modified to achieve this increased performance:
– new intake manifold with modified cross-section (material: sand cast aluminium );
– new intake pipe supports adapted to the form of the intake manifold;
– new exhaust manifolds with larger cross-section and optimized flow behavior;
– new cylinder heads with optimized, CNC-milled inlet ducts;
– new camshafts with larger valve stroke on the inlet side and modified inlet and outlet timing;
– inlet valve springs adapted to the enlarged valve stroke;
– modified partition box in the oil pan;
– modified maps for the DME control module.
The following steps are also taken on the vehicle:
– new underside panel in the transmission area;
– additional radiator in connection with modified front spoiler, except on the 911 Carrera 4S (996).
The higher-performance engine is also available as an option when ordering a new vehicles – 911 Carrera / 911 Carrera 4 / 911 Carrera 4S / 911 Targa – under Exclusive Option X51.
God that sounds like a lot more trouble than it's worth!
A simple re-map sounds more appealing, I just didn't know whether "fettling" with Porsches like that was the done thing if that makes sense?
I don't particularly want my engine lights and or worse coming up should I do that. :?
I do have to admit that my silver C4S is clearly faster than those that aren't silver. It might be hard to accept by those that have other colours but sorry, it is true. :judge:
