I find the brakes are not particularly responsive and the discs and pads are in perfect condition as the car was inspected pre-purchase in December.

Guys,
I have spoken to numerous people about the standard brakes on the 996 TT and the general consensus is they are absolutely pants - I have to agree on this!
I find the brakes are not particularly responsive and the discs and pads are in perfect condition as the car was inspected pre-purchase in December.
Does anyone know of the cost of upgrading these - my car is under warranty so I cannot do anything to void this.
I would also be interested to hear anyone elses thoughts on the 996 TT brakes - I have spoken to some 997 owners and they have said the brakes are in a different league!
Cheers
Nick
With your car being under warranty then there is not much you can do. You can't even change the pad compound. Without warranty concerns you could upgrade to 6 pot fronts (GT3/997 turbo) but they aren't actually any more powerful (marginally if you are being picky) just better at dissipating heat.
If you've done a search then hopefully you'll have seen that they need a shove to get them to work. So go and do that before you write them off.
I should add, I have upgraded to 6 pot fronts but I did this when I needed discs so the incremental cost was at its minimum. It still wasn't a cheap day out!!!
I find the brakes on my 996TT are the best of any car I've ever owned.
They have excellent feel when warmed up and I never feel like they are running out on me or not giving me the feedback I need to know how much more I've got left.
I've not tried any PCCB brakes but I suspect this is the way to go if ultimate braking is required.
Humm have to disagree a bit.
My 996TT brakes are the best as well from any car I've owned - on street / B road.
They are absolutly fine and great.
For the track they are not.
When tracking around, the only reason that I have to go in after a few laps its the brakes - they overheat QUICK.
6 pots and 997 brakes are a BIT better than 996 - you can see the difference but it is not worlds apart not in another league... c'mon..
Pagid's ( like Dave ) yes - that is another league and completely different standard.. but will void the OPC warranty...
I'm happy with my brakes and as mentioned on other posts they can feel under-servod compared with other cars. 4 pots and large discs like the TT are more than enough for road driving conditions, maybe look at ways to increase the servo assistance? Or as the doctor said 'push a little harder'
Brakes
Guys,
Thanks for the replies and maybe I am not being fair on the brakes! Call me naive but how do I get brakes warmed up to see how they work the most effectively?
Apologies for the lack of knowledge but atleast I am being honest!
Cheers again
