Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should have checked over or how I should prepare prior to embarking on a 2,200 mile trip?

( I have driven in France before without changing the lights and never had any probs but, I guess a 996 stands out a tad more than my last car!)

Suggestion

Use the correct size spanner (ideally a socket) to turn them, as they are only made of what appears to be bakelite and they snap really easily

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I plan to go on a driving holiday to various European countries months and was looking in the manual regarding altering the headlights for right hand drive. There is a good chance that I wont be doing any night time driving but dont really want to risk it as I dont want to give any 'gendarmerie' the excuse to pull me over. ( I have driven in France before without changing the lights and never had any probs but, I guess a 996 stands out a tad more than my last car!) I removed the headlight cluster as described but dont seem to be able to locate the adlusting screw which is detailed in the owners manual. I have litronic headlights Can any one help please? Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should have checked over or how I should prepare prior to embarking on a 2,200 mile trip? many thanks Richard

POST 2Original post

If we are talking about a post-facelift car like mine, after removing the headlight unit you then have to remove a couple of screws and unclip the back panel of the light - the adjuster is inside (not on the external housing). Had to read the book a couple of times to sort it out myself the first time I did it.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Colin, I'll have another look. Didn't realise when I had taken the headlight unit out I then had to remove a panel Oh, mine is a 2003 C2

POST 4Original post

I have a big trip planned to France, Belgium and Holland in July(ending up at the Rock Werchter festival ). In the past I have used the stick on deflectors. http://gbdriver.co.uk/index.php?mai..._id=97&zenid=1a5988fe5b3be7c730dbfd5b94746170 Are these not a) possible on the teardrop 996 lights? b) legal ? Also, wondered if a spare bulb kit was a good idea and how much OPC will sting me for this?

POST 5Original post

Use the correct size spanner (ideally a socket) to turn them, as they are only made of what appears to be bakelite and they snap really easily c:

POST 6Original post

I'm pretty sure a spare bulb kit is a legal requirement on the continent as is a flourescent tabard[waistcoat] and warning triangle. TB

POST 7Original post

This subject was fully covered in the following thread last year http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=37272&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=10 Tony, you are correct and you must now carry waistcoat in the passenger compartment! But OP has Litronics, and if same as Xenons you can't carry spare bulbs. Hope this helps David
