Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported fix
The unit was replaced and hey presto, no more issues.
Leading evidence: 'Replace unit' (1 discussions report resolution; 0 report an unsuccessful attempt). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'anti tilt sensor fitted' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace unit' (1 discussions). For that action, 1 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. The most frequently reported fix is 'Replace unit', supported by resolution reports in 1 discussions. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
My alarm seems to be going off even when the car is unlocked. Pressing the unlock on the remote does not switch it off, I have to put the key in. If left it does go off on its own.
What is strange is when I shut the door, there is a loud blip about 10 seconds afterwards which it has never done before.
I do have a problem with the ignition switch, I have to turn it slightly to the left to get aircon, wipers and other electrical suff, but not sure how this could cause the alarm to go off.
When I press the unlock / lock on the remote, I don't get a blip , shiould I ?
Any ideas,
Thanks
Scott

I had the same problem with the electrics and alarm. After reading the threads it all pointed to the ignition switch. Yesterday i bought the VW switch (part no. 4A0 905 849B) from German & Swedish for £11, Its £22 from VW.
I changed the switch in half an hour with the help of Richards 'How to' guide... Thanks Richard!
Now the electrics are all working but the Alarm still sounds off the horn on activation & disabling.
I think you may have the same problem.
Ok,
Changed the ignition switch thats to the great guide from Richard, all electrics okay now, alarm has not gone off so far. Still does a chirp a few seconds after shutting the doors so will see if alarm issue is fixed...
thanks
Scott
Damn,
Alarm just went off again.... so should I look at the ICE connections, how much of a job to remove the screen ?
Still doing the chirps, when I lock it I get two chirps and one chirp when unlocked which it has never done before until this alarm issue..
thanks again

I had the same problem with my C2. having checked everything most people could think of, the main one being the ICE connection, particularly if it is not the original stereo. There is a small pin/contact point on the side of the original stereo that is there to prevent theft. If an aftermarket unit is fitted, then the side of the unit needs to be insulated (taped) so that there is no connection there. having done this on mine, it proved it was not the ICE because the alarm would still go off intermittently.
The cause was finally traced to the anti tilt sensor fitted under the passenger seat. The unit is there to prevent someone lifting the car to tow it away. The unit was replaced and hey presto, no more issues. The unit can be disconnected and this should also solve the problem so i have been told.... anyone else know differently??
It may be worth you taking the car to the nearest OPC and get them to hook it up, should be able to tell the fault fairly quickly.
Hope you get it sorted because mine was a pain in the ar*e keep going off and annoying the neighbours
regards
Simon

The tilt sensor on the early cars is under the bonnet, on the right hand side of the battery, as you look at it. They are prone to filling up with water, and this causes false alarms. It is the white box with the sticker - under the alarm siren.
Spot on too, just removed the unit and yes full of water.
How it can get full of water with the car being in Cyprus is strange.
For the moment I have the unit with siren removed. How do I drain the water ?
Do I actually need the unit at all, I dont think car crime is a big thing over here :cop:
Thanks again for the help and support..

If it is full of water it will be knackered. They don't make that one any more - only the type which goes under the passenger seat, so some re-wiring needs to be done if you want to change it.
In the UK it is required for Thatcham Catagory 1 Approval. If you don't want to go to the expense of a new sensor (about £200) I would just disconnect the tilt sensor and put the siren back in place.
