Things looked well so cleaned/lubed it and put it back together but nothing worked.
Leading evidence: 'Clean /lubed it and put it back together' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean /lubed it and put it back together' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have the same problem with my frunk light and was puzzled when replacing the bulb didn't fix the problem.
Hello all,
I've had my car (06CS) for 5 months now and I recently found out that my front trunk interior light is not working.
Looked around the forums and tried the car locking with hood open test, the car does not beep with the hood open.
So now I can assume it is the latch microswitch.
Would I need to replace the whole lock mechanism?
(part number:
997-511-053-01-M100)
Thank you all very much!
My PET shows the microswitch as a separate part:
997 613 206 00
It is not an integral part with the latch.
Before buying a new part, you might have a look at the connection to make sure it is solid into the rest of the harness. And if you're handy with a
multimeter
you can test the operation of the switch.
Ah thank you!
I think the part number I list is the whole bottom part of the the lock.
Is the diy on this similar as the one listed in the
986
boxster
diys on renntech.org?
I don't think I need to unplug the
battery
during the process of this do I...?
Thanks a lot!
I've not done this repair so I can't answer your question for certain. You'll likely need to remove some frunk panels to get in there...it looks like the switch mates with the latch, which is then held in place by a metal cover.
I would say no need to disconnect the
battery
on this repair.
I just fixed the thing, now the frunk light is working flawlessly.
So the microswitch looks like this.
Basically the C-shaped white moving part is the part that got sticky, therefore not being able to click on the bottom switch
So I WD-40'd the C-shaped part and kept moving the part until it clicks the switch without any problems.
here's an example. in this picture the c-shaped part is not clicking the switch
In this picture, it clicked the switch
Little difference made a huge difference..
Now it's all good.
Good post Exintegro. I have the same problem with my frunk light and was puzzled when replacing the bulb didn't fix the problem. Here's to hoping your solution works for me as well.
Where is the microswitch? I pulled a few things like the carpet on each side and removed the actual latch but no go. I am blind, do I need to look elsewhere? A picture or quick explanation would be awesome since I have the same issue and now I a very curious. The parts manual have it listed but the diagram is not useful in locating it. Maybe I am just to tired and need to go to bed... Thanks.
There is a DIY article on Renntech, under the

boxster
subcategory.
When you disassemble the latch switch, get a flathead and pry off two clips and the microswitch will come off. (around 2 o' clock and 6 o' clock position. put back the 6 o' clock clip first when re-assembling them.)
Very interesting only works with
LED lights
not OEM bulb. I put everything apart which took like 5-10min since I knew what I was looking for now. Things looked well so cleaned/lubed it and put it back together but nothing worked. I knew my bulb was okay since it works elsewhere so figure it's the switch but I tried something new. I unplugged the light fixture from the trunk where I have an
LED
light within the fixture and plugged it in the frunk... it worked! Works for about 10 seconds but if I pulled the emergency manual lime latch (the handle if you were to lock yourself in the frunk
) it lights up again. So I tried one last time with multiple regular bulbs that do light up in the trunk but no light. It's not the light plastic fixture if you are wondering because I put
LED
in both and they work in the frunk and regular bulbs in both in the trunk and they work.
My educated guess is that my microswitch must be faulty in the frunk but using
LED lights
requiring less power I get a light. I am okay like that since I never really needed a light in the frunk but at least now I can sleep better knowing that I found the bug and a workaround. So to those who have no light in the frunk try an
LED
bulb and if lucky you will might have an alternative to buying a new switch (no need to pull the latch or anything just change the bulb to an
LED
!!!)
For those not used to
LEDs
, make sure to switch the
LED
bulb negative or positive ends since they only light up one way!!!
This is why I love these forums so much...followed your instructions to a T on my 05 base and presto the light came on. Took all of about 15 minutes! Thanks for the great post and pics.
So I had this problem as well and was super bummed because I read this thread and I really don't like doing work. So I sprayed a tiny tab of
WD-40
on it according to the engineering chart (the one that ends in
duct tape
,
WD-40
, or inaction) and boom! Good as new, 0 work done.
