Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
It was the first time I backed it after several days of nosing in.
Leading evidence: 'first time i backed it' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'first time i backed it' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check oil' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

You may know this but you need to always check the oil with the car parked in the same spot.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I took my car to get detailed today. It looks great. Wonderful. I drive about 5 min down the road and I notice (probably for the first time since the car is pristine) a few dark flecks by the passenger side intake. It sure looks like oil to me. It's literally five to seven specs, nothing major. And there's definitely no leaking beneath the car.
I check my oil-levels just about every morning. As of right now, I'm still full. Generally, I need to add a liter every 1-2k miles.
Should I be worried about anything? Or am I panicking for no reason....
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure i understand your question. you had it detailed. you drove the car. then took the engine cover off and see what you think is oil on the passenger side intake manifold?
No, no. I meant the side vent/intake just behind the driver and passenger doors. There were a few dark specks there which I only noticed after driving away from the detail.
Seems unlikely that it would be an oil leak from your car. Could be something kicked up from your front tire. Maybe dirty water left behind in the rim from the wash? It is usually pretty black and sooty looking from the brake dust.
the product they used may not have been rubbed in all the way. i'm sure you have nothing to worry about. thats a cooling fan on that side. intake is on the drivers side.
A few drops of an unknown hydrocarbon from an unknown source doesn't sound too worrisome. Why not relax and just keep an eye on it. The next time you have the car serviced I'd guess they'd spot anything serious leaks when the tech does their inspection.
Your car could have a giant oil leak and none of it would end up on the side of the car on the passenger side. Far more likely you picked it up along the way from another source. Just drive on and enjoy your car.
Detailed the tires? My guess is any type of slinging of tire dressing in turn is what you are seeing as either product and or the product attracting dust etc.
I would say this is a bit excessive on oil consumption. Might be an AOS starting to shoot craps. I don't think it's related to your exterior spots, but consuming that much oil should be something looked into.
I would think it might be some "grime" (hence the blackness) from when they compounded your vehicle that was hidden under the trim around the side vent...Just like when you wash your car and then drive it to find drips on your door from something like your mirror......
Certainly an option, I have many small chips around that side vent vs my driver side vent. I believe the fan draws objects into the area. Perhaps bring the car back to the detailer and they can determine if it's tar by employing one of their tar cleaners?
You may know this but you need to always check the oil with the car parked in the same spot. I sort of freaked out after I backed in the garage one night and it was low the next morning. It was the first time I backed it after several days of nosing in. The floor is not terrible unlevel but it ia enough to effect the dash read out for oil level. I try to keep mine at the middle bar.
Don't worry about your oil. I GUARANTEE that what you're seeing is overspray from the silicone-based "tire black" substance that the detailers put on your tires. The same thing happens to my car. Worry no longer!
This is the level you want to fill to / maintain at. This is the level Budman is referring to.
The reason you don't want to go to the top mark is because of the inaccuracy of the gauge. It estimates where the level is and decides how many bars to show. So if you go to the top bar, you could have more than that amt of oil in your car but it's not too high for the next overfill bar. Not good, as you'll have more oil than it's supposed to have. This can cause a hydro-lock situation or cause issues with the AOS or cause smoking at start-up. By filling to the 3/4 mark shown, you know you are well about 1/2 but below full (and potentially over full).
